+1 on the Ruger Mark III or and older Mark II if you can find on. Owners tend to hang on to them. Another choice in the .22 field is the Ruger 22/45. Pretty much a Mark II but with a Polymer lower that has the same grip angle of the .45 1911 type pistol. When the wife and I had a better place to shoot we would often on the weekends take 500 rounds each for her 22/45 and my Mark II and shoot them all up, and wish for more. As others have said the lever on the Sig 226 is a decocker. So you have the long/heavy DA pull stroke for the first shot and a much shorter/lighter Single Action shot for each subsequent shot. If you shoot to slide lock, then put in a fresh magazine, release the slide lock, then your first shot will still be SA as the hammer will still be cocked. If you choose to stop shooting, then operate the de-cocker lever all the way down and the hammer will fall harmlessly. Then your first shot will be the Double Action long/heavy stroke again. Hope this helps a little.

Does this work like a safety or when the decocker is on can it still be fired? It is a little confusing because the safety on my 92 is also a decocker.

Bird, I have a bunch of 45's from WW2 that still work like new, some better than new.

Now, the question I gotta ask...were you around when those rounds were new? If not, how do you know they're better...?

You may very well be right, James. So far my Sig has not malfunctioned at all, but Sig keeps sending e-mails wanting me to send it it for various and sundry tuning or servicing. In fact, they say it should be "serviced" every year or 5000 rounds, whichever comes first. Now I probably only average about one box of 50 rounds a month. The gun is 29 months old so it's not even close to 5000 rounds. I do clean and lubricate it every time I shoot it, so we'll see someday.

You might consider getting a new recoil spring at 5000. I don't have a clue what the "service" would be other than a good cleaning or the recoil spring replacement, but maybe that is what they mean. I used to shoot about 10,000 a year, but a good USPSA shooter might shoot 20,000, ( I never was any good, B class was the best I managed) If we sent guns back to the Manufacture, all the time, we would not get much shooting done.:)

On a standard P226, the decocker is pushed down, the hammer falls harmlessly, and the decocker springs back up on its own and is ready to fire again with a Double Action pull (long/heavy stroke).

Well, I won't have to worry about my gun lasting that long, since I won't last half that long myself.
