Loose that Glock and get a Wilson Combat.....:D

Or maybe a Nighthawk Custom.. I spent a couple of days in their facility in Berryville Ar. (not all that far from Wilsons) programing their new phone system. Their models start at $3000 and go up from there. Interesting place.

Now, that a seriously expensive sissy pistol!!!

Actually, one reason I carry a Glock is their relatively low cost. IF (Heaven Forbid!!) you do have to use your gun, it'll likely be taken as evidence (maybe not so much now that PA has Catle Doctrine). If it is taken, odds are you may never see it again.
Glocks are easily replaced...

Now to the real point of my post... I bought a Gen2 Glock 23 in 1995. I like the .40 cal, but was never really able to shoot well with this Glock. A couple of months ago I bought a Springfield XDM in .40 cal, 4.5" barrel, with 16 round mag. I was amazed at how well the gun felt, and how accurate it was. Two weeks later I got another XDM .40 with the 3.8" barrel. I simply love these pistols... much more so than my Glock. I know they don't have the track record of the Glocks, but I personally feel they are comparable in durability and simplicity of design. I am really surprised that no one else has mentioned the XD or XDM during this discussion?!?!

I'll be the first to admit...all guns don't fit all people.
Glocks (especially my 19 with the Hogue Wraparound grip) fits me very well.
But, if your XD's fit you, then that's the gun you need.

I've shot a few .40's...like 'em, but didn't really want to add another caliber to my collection. Snappy recoil in a Glock...

Not to make excuses for glock, I just got rid of my model 27 .40 cause it was unmanageable for me.

But that Springfield is close to half a pound heavier than the 23, that could have alot to do with how well it feels.

That applies to almost anything bought in bulk..you can get the same pricing, but you'll have to buy 200 of 'em.
Even without the discount, Glocks are relatively inexpensive...priced a box stock Colt 1911 recently?

For Christmas I broke down and bought a Kimber CDP II. I now can not even look at my glock 22. Shooting both side by side it's amazing how much better the kimber shoots then the glock. I have another valid handgun permit ( I live in jersey) and unless I am persuaded in another direction I am buying another kimber. Maybe a super carry custom hd. I just took the Utah CC class so when I leave the communist state of NJ I can protect myself so I "need" a good conceal carry gun. My glock just got an Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit so I can shoot on the cheap. .45acp is not the cheapest choice out there!

I tend to keep it simple for my pistols. I use them strictly for home defense and for carrying around my land. I dont buy 'em for show. With that said I own a glock 26 and a Rossi 38 snubbie. I trust my life with these guns or else they wouldn't be in my house or on my side when I'm on my land sometimes. In my opinion I wanted stone reliable, would go "boom" whenever I pulled the trigger, and had as good of a reputation as a Nun. To me that was glock and Rossi is now made by Taurus and I've never heard a cross word about them. The bad guy doesn't care how pretty my gun is or what kind it is so why should I? Now when it comes to shotguns and rifles I can spend some $$$$!

I am undecided if a small revolver or Ruger .22 would be better for the wife. A revolver is probably easier to use, I just dont know if I could find a small one without much recoil? maybe a .38?

My wife had no trouble adapting to a ,38 snubby and LOTS of females in Law Enforcement use them and bigger ones. Most of our female Officers had no prior experience with firearms and quickly learned to shoot the .38 or Glock .40.

Ruger makes a revolver in .32 H&R Magnum which has lighter recoil than the .38.

An advantage of the .38 is you can get everything from very mild target loads, standard pressure defense loads and hot +P or even +P+.

My youngest son and I were both in Law Enforcement and got use to the Glock; tried and owned Springfields and just didn't fit. You can't give my oldest son a Glock; LOVES his Springfields. Just have to find what works for you, the Springfield has a real good reputation.

Loose that Glock and get a Wilson Combat.....:D

Now that just doesn't help at all; last time my wife and I went into a sporting goods store, I didn't go in as I really would like to have a Kimber, Wilson etc.

I won't carry one, but they are a hoot to shoot. I thought about having my Gold Cup customized, but decided to keep it as is.

Bird,

We had an old saying, "You don't have to be able to outrun the dog, just your partner." Maybe the semi auto won't outlast the revolver, but they will outlast me.

Roy - you are right... the .40 Glock was quite snappy... the XDM .40 feels like I'm shooting a 9mm. I also agree that personal fit and feel is what's important.

Addiction what addiction. You can't be too smart, too rich, have too much fun, or have too many guns.

I finally decided to buy a big-boy pistol and ended up with an XDM .45. I really like it - it is the first .45 auto that I've had. I would say the felt recoil of it is no worse than my .40, and not much more than my 9mm.

I was fortunate that when I bought it in the fall Springfield Armory was offering 3 free magazines and another magazine holder. I bought the gun on a Tuesday afternoon and was able to enter the information all online (scanning in the receipts and emailing them). Lo and behold the magazines and holder showed up the following Thursday! Can't complain about that at all.

Don't know what my next one will be, but I'm sure it will be something!
