Most of the centerfire ammo is available at some price. You may not like the price but it is available for sale. Part of the pricing is that ammo is still coming off of the hoarding binge, and part of it is just the price of metals have increased over the last few years. As for .22LR ammo, well, who knows, there is still no .22LR ammo in to be had by ordinary people. You can't just go to a store and actually buy any.. Sure there are shipments that come in to stores and they go back out instantly. The hoarding thing is going full swing on .22LR ammo and does not seem to be letting up. Many cite the fact that an awful lot of people became interested in shooting after they were frightened in to believing they may not be able to. The companies that make .22LR ammo claim they are running 24/7/365 and yet they can't keep up.
Your guess as to why is as good as anyones else.
As for powder.. well that is another story.. There is no powder for sale.. Why? I don't have a clue. I have heard some rumors, but they do not bear repeating. All I know is What powder that is available is old stock, and no popular powders are available. I traded back in 2 one lb containers of some old powder I no longer needed back in to a gun store and I got over 2 times back in 9mm ammo and cash than the powder was worth. So you tell me, where is the powder?
I was able to buy some primers the other day, they are high, about $30 per thousand, but you can buy them. Bullets are in good supply, again higher than ever, but available. Again the prices of raw materials are often cited for the higher prices of all metallic components.
