Wow, truly scary!

I've heard of several people having trouble with that pesky round left in the chamber but you'd think a cop would know better.

I got a video through email showing some impressive shooting. Check it out.....click on the WMV file under Fastshooter.

The video won't play -- I get an "Cannot open. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again."

Anybody else have this problem?

Sad when anybody gets hurt, but not so unbelievable. When I lived in Arizona a number of years ago, I took a handgun training class from a former LAPD SWAT Instructor. When he was teaching in LA, the department allowed a 25% hit rate on the range to qualify! Doesn't sound like a whole lot of firearms training to me.

As to the Fastshoot video, on a good day with my Ruger I could shoot and reload in under 10 seconds (didn't hit the target though), but 2 seconds, wow!

No..can't say I've had any unpleasant experiences with cops...other then a speeding ticket or expired inspection sticker. In that case, they were just doing the job.

However, cops must carry guns...that's part of their job. They'd better be completely familiar with them and know when to pull the magazine out (as should have been done during that school demonstration). I carry a Glock quite a bit (CCW permit) and I always check the chamber if I pull the magazine out. I've had two accidental discharges in the last 20 years...one was decocking a Colt 1911...the other with a sticky firing pin on an SKS rifle. Since I had the weapons pointing away from any harmful situations, there was no damage other then my pride.

In the case of the DEA agent at the school, his weapon should have been unloaded and checked again before the demonstration. His finger had to be on the trigger since Glocks have a safety built into the trigger. I own two of them...nice handguns..so I do know what I'm talking about.

One never... repeat...NEVER puts their finger on the trigger of any handgun or rifle until the target is acquired and a shot is imminent.

This cop was stupid...he shouldn't be carrying a gun.

I sincerely hope I NEVER have a accidental discharge, With that being said, I pretty much agree with everything you said

Fine points on gun safety. I took the liberty to search the web for the news accounts and additional posts of the video, because I couldn't believe my eyes. I have downloaded the complete package and forwarded it to some of my law enforcement friends.

EGO does appear to be a major part of this video star's persona. It is truly tragic that his actions will have a rippling effect upon all of law enforcement.

My understanding of the news accounts is that he is suspended pending completion of an internal investigation. One would hope that his ability to carry any weapon would come to an abrupt halt.

It is interesting that he would not understand the danger of an unsecured weapon, loaded or not, in a school today. Given the horrible violence that has occurred in schools, it is easy to understand that the mere presence of a weapon would make students and faculty uneasy.

I am aware of one Department's policy where a weapon is not to be "un-holstered" in public unless there is a threat of serious bodily harm. I don't think a "scared straight" presentation to an elementary class would make the cut, no matter how well originally intended.

One of my law enforcement friends merely responded to the video by saying: "Great, just what we need today, another fool giving us a black eye."

I shoot IPSC competitions and we have some law enforcement people that compete. Sadly, numerous law enforcement personnel do not train enough with their firearms. From my personal observation, the gun ranges are far from the city now (due to lawsuits) and there are not enough of them. Combine that with budget restraints, and lowered standards the results are obvious. When I was in the military, we only went to the range once per year! Is that really enough to stay proficient with a weapon? I think most law enforcement officers are trained, but don't get enough time at the range to really work with their weapons. Instead, we (the taxpayer) want to hand them "Less Lethal" weapons. How much are we spending on these new weapons vs. training officers to be better? What really amazes me is watching the news, and hearing a law enforcement officer used a taser on 9 year old... I guess the 9 year old was too big for him to restrain?

Sorry for the rant... I have travelled to PA from FL and it is cold here! Nothing better to do than complain! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think you right about the ego thing. This is where machismo and reality collide.
I have lots of friends who are in law enforcement, none of them behave this was.
This guy is a dolt. He had his finger on the trigger, safety was off, loaded gun, no trigger lock...on and on....not to mention a class of kids (who often have difficult times doing the right thing). Its all the ingredients for a disaster. Fortunately he was the one that got hurt.

I did thin it was funny when they pulled out that big gun (shotgun? I couldnt tell) and all the kids were screaming "put it back"....nice

I work for the Illinois Department of Corrections and it is scary that we put guns in the hands of some of my fellow employees! We are required to qualify once a year and the course of fire is some what of a joke. 24 rounds into a 8x11 peice of paper at 7yds. 26rounds into same target at 15yds. Not exactly challenging, but the number of officers who barely make it and are then allowed to cary a gun in public scares me. Just as bad or even worse are the ones who aren't conscience of the fact they are carrying a firearm in close proximity to a felon, such as the recent case in Atlanta GA. I've worked with guards who'll get into an elevator at a court house and stand right next to a convict with the weapon darn near touching him! Then, to top it off, when you bring this little oversight to their attention, they have the nerve to get mad at you stating "I know this guy and he wouldn't try that with me".
The second amendment may be a right, but we need to treat it as a precious priviledge or the Feinstein's, Clinton's and Brady's of this world are going to take it from us in the name of "Protecting the People". The first step to dictatorship is the disarming of the people.
