I know this is a tractor site and that this topic if ...well off topic but being an avid shooter/gun owner, NRA member and advocate of the 2nd Amedment I am glad to that there are still people out there (the people that have posted here) that can look at a video like this and say "what and Idiot" and place the blame where it belongs... on the IDIOT and not guns in general.

Since this is such a well maintained forum and most of the people I have come across here are good people I hope this isn't against any rules but I would like to tell anyone that would like to check it out to look at www.huntchat.com, it is one of the best hunting/shooting/outdoors/firearms forums that I have ever been to on the internet. It is very family friendly and all the people there are very nice and it reminds me a lot of the people here at tractorbynet. There is not fighting or flaming each other and the sight is one of the most informative hunting/shooting/outdoors forums I know of.
Check it out if you are interested. BTW I go by the same username over there as I do here

The amount of training varies considerably with different departments and different times, as you might imagine. When I started in law enforcement, over 40 years ago, we had a "fair" amount of training and good instructors, but not as much practice as I would consider adequate. And there was no requirement that an officer be able to shoot well enough to "qualify". We were told that if we could not shoot a qualifying score we should go to the range on our own time and practice (and pay for the ammo). All officers were issued a S&W or Colt .38 special, 4" barrel, but were allowed to carry anything made by Colt or S&W, .38 caliber or larger. We had to shoot a 50 round course every six months, and some officers used a different pistol on the range than what they carried (the City provided the ammo for the .38, but the officer paid for his own if it was something else). And then came the concept of "vicarious liability", in which people could sue the department, chief, etc. for the actions and/or improper training of an officer. So in later years, officers had to qualify twice a year to carry a gun and they had to do it with the specific gun they would carry; make, model, and serial number. That was when a lot of officers got rid of those .44 magnums (Dirty Harry sold lots of them for S&W, even to cops) and other big guns. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

This story may reveal why they don't practice more. It can be deadly if you don't do it properly............chim

Training gone awry

Just glad that they didn't let that goofball have the other gun. He may have shot a kid.

Very poorly written story. Did the media really have to mention the bridge incident? Bet that really impressed the friends and family. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yikes! When I took a handgun training course prior to getting my CWP.. our instructor ( retired LEO-instructor) was pretty strict. All shots had to be accounted for on the silo target, and then only shots well inside the lines counted. No grazes, or 'skin' shots. He didn't like to see 2 shots thru 1 hole.. he wanted to see deffinately 2 entry points.. etc.

We didn't get our papers untill we had 100% on paper and almost that on target.

At first I disagreed with him.. untill I thought about it.

If I'm shooting for score.. etc.. same hole shots is awesome. If I'm shooting a person who is goin to try to kill me. Shooting thru the same hole doesn't do as much to 'stop' the atacker. In other words.. another seperate entry would and you have a better chance of 'stopping' the atacker.

In that context.. I agreed with him.

If'n you can put multiple shots through one hole chances are the first one is where you want it.
