Guns: What's the best shot you ever made?

This is an amusing story sent to me that I'll pass on. Not only fishermen have their tales.

Here's a picture of the new world record whitetail. It was taken by the cousin of a co-worker's sister's, uncle's, boy friend's, son-in-law's cousin his name was Chris Blickfeldt. Reportedly it will score 2603-1/8 by B&C standard and was shot in Idaho City Id. during a tornado around a curve at last light. Supposedly, this deer had killed a Brahma bull, 6 mountain lions (4 of which were black), a whole pack of wolves, a rhino, and that's in the last two weeks alone. They said it was winning a fight with Bigfoot when it was shot from 972 yards away on a dead run (chasing Sasquatch) through heavy cover with a 22 cal. rifle and open sights.
:confused2:

Yeah, the jerk, put his .22 bullet through the same hole as my BB from my Daisy Red Ryder. We couldn't find my BB so he got to claim the buck! I'm still so mad I could spit moon rocks!

Not saying this didn't happen....but animals hit broadside, directly in the heart, seldom (if ever) drop dead in their tracks...especially with a rimfire 22....and at 175 yards to boot....and waiting for you to finish your biz. Good thing you had a witness.

Listen foggy, that's fine I don't mind whether you or anyone believe it or think its impossible, calling me less than honest to make you look smart doesnt make you look all that impressive to me either.

Fact he may have gone a few feet I don't know now it was probably close to 30 years ago. Fact is it was still there on the shoulder when I got to it here is the thing I was saying it was the best shot I ever made period lucky but good.

I was just trying to kill it and couldnt care less whether it went 2 feet or 200 feet a center mass shot was all I had no precision head shots take it or leave it is all I can say it was a long shot for a .22 no doubt.

Oh, clam down. He was just saying that you hear stuff like that (and all the rest of these stories) all the time. After all, the shot really only matters to the one that made it.

All I can say about it speak for yourself when you say animals don't die instantly from a heart shot or a .22 cant kill a coyote at 175 yds that's whats pure bs imo seen it done plenty of times.

First off....I am not about to tell you that your kill didn't happen....and you tell a good story. Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh.....but normally to drop an animal in its tracks, one needs to hit the central nervous system (spine, neck, brain etc). Typically, with a heart shot the animal jumps (kinda rears up in my experience) and will run some distance till the heart quits supplying blood and thus oxygen to the critter. But, having said that.....lotsa stuff happens with shooting critters. So.....good shot!

I cannot explain how I kilt seven ducks with one shot either....lining em up is one way.....but luck is more effective.

foggy,

Thanks and fwtw I wouldn't have even mentioned it believe me I don't brag so if I didn't think it would be taken seriously by this forum especially considering the topic of the thread being the theme was unheard of feats of accuracy and I was truly impressed by myself that time and thought it was worth mention since someone asked! :)

You know it's not always the "best" shot that you remember the longest. I was 10 years old the first time I ever shot anything other than a BB gun. My dad called me to the front yard, had his .22 rifle (which, incidentally, I still have) and pointed out a swamp rabbit a good ways outside the yard, and asked if I wanted to shoot it. I had followed him around hunting squirrels, rabbits, and quail for several years, but he had never let me shoot the gun. In my excitement, I shot over the rabbit, but it just ducked and sat there. So I tried again. With the second shot that rabbit jumped straight up in the air and came back down on its back right in the same spot. When I dressed it, I found that shot had been right through the heart. And when I got home from school the next day, there was a new .22 Remington single shot bolt action rifle and box of .22 shorts waiting for me. I went straight to the creek and got another rabbit (cottontail) that evening.:D

I wondered how long it would take before we started reading fiction in this thread.

But the rest of the story, true of course, is that the abominable snowman got between me and that deer during a driving hailstorm before it turned to sandstorm. Just as I was taking the shot, there was this earthquake which caused the abominable one to stumble, and I was able to make the shot at the last moment with my .22 from 1,900 yards, but then that other guy got to the deer because he was only 972 yards away and claimed all the credit.

But I'm not bragging or anything like that.

Come on foggy, get real.

Even if the guy made it up (I don't think he did) what do you have to gain by calling BS?

Is your second job as a forensic scientist?

That is what kills the fun in posts like these. What about my long squirrel shot in the head (earlier post)? Think I'm lying?
