Hey Guys,

Sorry I did not do this job, every time I even mention the word welding the wife starts to laugh. I can do a small fix but my welds look fair sometimes. I know I've got to practice more.

So I took both my buckets to my local one man shop, hes a great guy and he does it all. He put gussets in both my buckets and drilled a hole so you could hook up a clevis if you needed to. His work looks great as always. Here is a shot of the top and bottom, I did not get a good shot of the whole bucket.

What is this bracket for again?
No offense, nice welds,
Why not bolt it in?

The buckets that came with my Case and New Holland were weak on the front edge. I put some pressure on the front edge and you could see it bend with no effort. I asked him what was the best way to beef up the bucket, he said it just needed this gusset.

He said when my wear bars go bad he will build me a better one and put it on. This addition strengthened the whole bucket, I like what he did the buckets feel a lot better and are a lot stronger.

I'll get a better picture of the bucket so you can see it better.

Aren't you limited as to what you can get into the bucket? like rocks or furniture?

I've got the pallet forks for the big stuff like that. I like to move gravel and dirt and the occasional rock, I'm getting the quick spade for the pallet forks so if I have a rock that big they will take care of that problem.

If you had seen the bucket on our JD60 that I traded in you would know why I fixed up these right away:D. These buckets are pretty shallow anyway.

Nice job! I had the bucket strengthened on mine by putting on a reversible bolt on cutting edge, maybe not as strong as yours, lifting boulders is what would cause mine to flex. plowking

Hey plowking,

I had asked him about a bolt on cutting edge, he said get the use out of the one that came on it then when I need it he will put me on a better stronger cutting edge.

He did two of my buckets this way and made me a stronger hammer strap for my ATV trailer for $130.

He also modified my cat 1 Speedco quick attach to fit my new DX60. The DX came with a lower arm ball that is a Cat 1 or a Cat 2, so in the Cat 1 position it's 1.5" wide.

That is too wide to get into a quick attach, so he cut the hooks out and made the hole thing wider and beefed it up also. That job only cost me $142.

I don't mind paying him and getting a better job than I could ever do. Last fall he was working on a truck bed and had a piece of steel on the forklift moving it under the truck bed that was raised, he was walking up to secure it under the truck when the wind blew it off the forklift and hit him in the head.

He got a major concussion from this and missed all the harvest work he usually gets. The doctor said it will be another 1 to 1 1/2 years before he is full back and not getting headaches. I've been tipping him extra so he could get a free lunch or two for each job he does and he told me no one ever tips him.

He is a great wielder, one man shop in a small town about 7 miles from my house so that makes it nice also.

My markham teeth are a good reinforcement of the cutting edge.
I just had a receiver hitch welded to the top. A five foot boom with a dropper to the teeth makes it very sturdy. So much so that I'm thinking of making a longer boom.

Hi,Thumper and Buttercup. I do snow work with mine ,so a bolt on edge made since as I probably wear mine out quicker then you would. I got mine at a municipal supply. Paid 85.00 for the 60 inch cutting edge with bolts, nuts included. Being reversible I can turn it around when the front side wears out. The edge gives me a better surface to scrap with. If I could afford it,I'd get one made out fo carbide. plowking

Mostly with snow we are using the blower, with the new tractors I find myself doing a little more back pulling to where I can get the snow with the blower. Here is a better shot of the bucket so you can see the bracket better.

You're a good person. Nothing wrong with helping someone out.

We'll the way I use our buckets I like a smooth edge to work with.

I like to back drag to smooth and drag dirt and gravel. I also use the 3pt blade to finish it out.

I also use the buckets for snow removal and pulling it out from areas so I can get it with the blower.

I'm like you that way. No point in having a bucket if the cutting edge isn't straight. Mine has a thick bolt on cutting edge which adds a lot of strength to the bucket and I added a section to the top of the bucket last winter so It could carry more snow seeing that's all I use it for.

Nice job on the bucket. Part of my business is Designing/Welding and Machining and I have to say your welding guy does nice work. Tell him I said so :D

Hey 4shorts,

That bucket looks great, I asked him about a bolt on cutting edge, and he said just use up the one that is on there and then he would build us a better one. That way we will get our moneys worth out of the one that came on there.

He said all bucked really should come with a gusset for strength. I'll pass on the good thoughts, I'll see him this week to get hammer straps made for my draw bars:D.

Just bolt on a new cutting edge, without teeth. Sure limits what you can carry in size.

If I've got something that big I'll put on the pallet forks. The buckets that came on the Case and the New Holland are not that large to begin with.

Thumper

I'm glad it did what you need. I have 6 types of buckets and would never do that to any of mine unless that piece bolted on and could be removed. I think it pretty much renders the bucket useless for me. Sorry to have to say that.

had a bucket on an old white tlb years ago the kind of got torn up in one of those (kid rider accidents) tore the bottom of the bucket off rebuilt but even with an oversized cutting edge we still had trouble bending the bottom when loading broken concrete slabs. finally did just that to the bucket never really had trouble with loading the bucket
however a clevis in that brace makes for one heck of an access point!!
