If you understand the science behind wetlands preservation and you care about future generations and their quality of life it's hard to understand why people place their individual property rights above the wellfare of others. You can't be a true sportsman and not be an environmentalist. Pretty soon we won't have any birds to hunt or fish to catch. There are no freshwater fish left in America that don't come with some health warning for consumption by pregnant women. Wetlands are more important than your current understanding allows. Please read more scientific data on this important subject? You are what you read.

Please stop focusing on yourself and work for the greater good of America.
Yeah, either someone like you or our wonderful government can buy my land or NOT TELL ME WHAT TO DO WITH IT!!!! This country was founded on INDIVIDUAL property rights....

I'm sure we're drifting too far from good 'tractor' related discussion, but there are but a few foundational elements upon which this country was established. I'm not talking about freedom of this or freedom of that, I'm not talking about pursuing happiness or even inalienable rights. When "my land" is truly "your land" it will be time to look for another mother land or start living in a compound.
Pursuing happiness & even inalienable rights for us means property owernship among other things. Also what we can do with our tractors.

It is a little scary when the pendulum swings to the left and gets stuck there.

It's also scary whether pendulum swings too wide in any direction; though tilting to the right suits me. (Not the village idiot type of right)

Government is a necessary parasite. Unfortunately parasites that eat the entire body is what uncontrolled goverment left to do what they please will do.
Look at Massachusetts state goverment! 16 Billion for a shoddy hole in the ground! Not all of the BIG Dig is crap, just 90% @ 900% over budget!

I agree...I wish more people would think that way. We seem, as a society, to think about living for today and not thinking about tomorrow.

I'm going to say this as nice as I can and I know I'll probably get flamed.

Environmentalist should be found in the Dictionary under the word Hypocrite. Conservationalist on the other hand, to me, is a person who does not knowingly and excessively waste natural resources with exception as to scratching out a living on this good earth. Let me explain.

About 2 years ago, ALCOA somehow won the rights to strip mine in Lee county too after tearing up a large chunk of Milam county. I understand this is somehow progress and generally I was opposed to the expansion. I would be a hypocrite though everytime I placed an aluminum can to my lips. Our cars have aluminum to lighten their mass. It is a metal that just about everybody in our country utilizes one way or another daily.

My buddy has shown me oil well sites that look like an environmental catastrophy and a couple years later after pulling out the equipment, its the greenest spot in the pasture.

Timber, you are lucky that your board understood your way of thinking. I don't think you would be so thrilled if they ruled the other way and wanted you to remove 1/2 or more of the fill to "compromise".

Raddad,

Please go back to what ever 3rd grade class room you came from and stop this "Trolling" behavior. You obviously have no clue about the topic.

The environmental movement is the new home of the socialist/communist party. Many peon followers, like raddad, don't realize this and their brainwashed by all the hype to think they are doing good. Poor souls. Ever wonder why Gorbachev is active in the movement? The environmental movement to many is not so much for the environment as they are against capitalism.

As for hypocrites, you bet. A moron at our marina (basically a nice guy, just a naive and gullible saleman) is always preaching about how fossil fuel is melting the ice caps and the Mississippi river is go to be totaly flooded in 5 years. I told him if he really believes that what the heck is he doing owning a 32 foot gas guzzling boat and big SUV. He was speechless.

The world will probably be destroyed by the decay of society and nuclear war before the environment gives out. That's my concern.

Raddad, China could use a few hard left guys, the state owns it all and the infrastructure growth is out of hand, I imagine they backfilled over many swamps. Don

Some regulation is required. Excessive is not. Our local planning commission tried to put a new county wide building regulations in. Prior it was all but impossible to build in the country the zoning was so strict "to maintain the agricultural land". The new one contained such things as the commission had to approve the architecture, color of paint, can't build on a hill top (not bad IMO) and the like. Nowhere did they specify what color or achitecur would be acceptable, just that they had approval of it. Of course after 3 years of telling them they were full of it and it would never fly in court they hired an out of country lawyer to vet the regs. Yep, he told them 'you are full of it' in basically the same terms they had been hearing for years.

They are still trying to fix it.

Position of Ayatollah is open in the county.

I have read all the threads in this discussion and I have to add my 2 cents
worth.
It is interesting and amazing as well that the discussion led to what it led to
but should not be surprizing.
I find that most are right in what they say and rest are exactly right

Dispite what the left is telling us America is still great.

Don't forget to vote in Nov!
