Three Whoopers (one male and two females) came in over the weekend to feast on frogs and small fish from dawn until about 10AM each day.

If you look close, you can see that each of them has a radio transmitter attached to one of their legs...

Rat, I shot two coyotes Saturday morning with my scoped Ruger #1 .22-250 at about 200 yards, saw two more but couldn't get close enough to pick them off.

The main predators of the Whoopers here are the coyotes and the bobcats, mostly at night when they are roosting.

That is really neat, Skypup. I'm envious.

Neat! I believe they were thought to be extinct at one time, or were down to a handfull of them in existence.

Received this note from the Director of the National Wildlife Laboratory after I forwarded him the photos:

"Nice pictures! The birds are cranes 1291 (Blue / Red), 1337 (Yellow / Yellow) and 1350 (Blue / Orange). "

The first digit identifies their hatch century (21) and the second their hatch year (2 = 2002)."

"Bird 1291 is a male hatched 31 May 2002 at the International Crane Foundation, Baraboo, Wisconsin and was released 2 January in Lake County, just south of Leesburg."

" Bird 1337 is a female hatched in the wild in near Leesburg 3 March 2003 and bird 1350 was hatched 2 June 2003 at Patuxent wildlife research center in Laurel Maryland and was released 18 February at the same Lake County site as 1291 "
