I found out where he probably bought the commodes, so I am going to call and see what I can find out.. I NEVER thought about registering commodes for warranty OR even keeping the receipts..
Brian, when I built my house, I chose American Standard commodes, kitchen sink, and a pedestal sink in the master bath. My color choice was antique white and purchased through Lowes. When my order was received at the store, there was lots of damage to the boxes. I started to open the boxes in the store to do an inspection and they seemed to get upset. I should have just walked away, but I had paid for the shipment and didn't want to go through the hassle of reordering somewhere else. I told the manager to write "damaged boxes at delivery" on the receipt, sign it, and I would take the goods. He promised me that they would make anything good if I found damage.
When I opened the boxes and did an inspection, I found one commode tank lid was broken. Everything else was fine. I went back to the store with the lid in hand and my receipt with the note. The manager didn't even blink. He said they would reorder the part for me and took all the information. I was happy.
Well, to make a long story short, it took almost 6 months to get a replacement. It seems that nobody had that tank lid in stock, not even American Standard. Over the 6 months, they had 3 shipments to that Lowes store that included lids. Lowes would call me and I'd go to the store only to find they had sent the wrong color or there was no lid at all. I was really angry and demanded my money back. The manager apologized and asked for one more try to get the part. He ordered a complete toilet in the correct color. One month later it arrived and he gave me the lid. He put my damaged lid in the box and shipped it back to Amer. Std. as damaged goods.
I have not been back into that Lowes store nor bought American Standard since. On the bright side, all my Am. Std. fixtures work perfectly. I hope you have better luck with them on your warranty order.
