Anyone put a ham radio transceiver on their tractor? Don't know why I am thinking about it but it does sound interesting

Where you considering VHF or HF?. I did see an HF installation on a large field tractor on QRZ.com. But you would need to spend a lot of boring time in a field to make it worthwhile I would think.

I used to carry an FRS radio on the tractor but could never hear it while working so if the home tried to contact me, it was worthless. I just slip my flip-phone into my pocket for emergencies. I usually have the MP3 player going through ear buds under the hearing protectors anyway. :confused3:

A good Heil headset in a tractor in a cab would be fine.

The noise cancelling one!

After retiring as a broadcast engineer for 19 years I consider most of what I hear as noise. The tractor sounds like music to me.

I wonder how a transceiver would handle the vibration & dust. I have an Icon HF mobile unit that I've used way out on the far edge of my property but not on my tractor. I really don't like the idea of volcanic ash mixing with my HF unit.

Have a Yaesu FTM-10SR on the quad and have a FTM-10R to put into the RTV-1100 but have never gotten around to doing it. Both radios are VHF UHF dual band with AM and FM broadcast receive and are ruggedized for motorsports.

What's your call? N7GVE here. In answer to your question, not yet but will after I get a canopy for the tractor.

Should have given my call W5AKW first licensed in 1956 I was thinking about putting a VHF radio in the tractor, why I don't know. I normally work HF from the house

When I finally get mine installed it will be VHF primarily to get ahold of the better half for that jug of cold sweet tea.
