Snow Hands always cold in snow. Which mittens?

I have a pair of mittens that cops use for directing winter traffic up north here. They are white, double layered and keep my non-circulating old hands warm. There is no label on them anywhere. When it's not too cold I just use snowmobile gloves and when above freezing my chainsaw gloves..

I use a pair of shooting mittens. The mitten part folds back and is held with a magnet exposing a glove. And the trigger finger and thumb fold back to. Its like having the best of both worlds gloves and mittens. I don't know what brand they are but I gave close to $40 for them. They are very warm, dry and very functional.

I used to have a pair of the "arctic" mittens the army uses (someone else mentioned them as well) I would wear a pair of the wool glove liners underneath then and would stay fairly warm. The "Sportsmans Guide" and "Colemans Surplus" both have these.

I agree also that keeping your head and neck well covered will assist the process as well. Most importantly, as mentioned- this might be a sign of a medical problem that should be looked into. The Heart and Brain are very selfish when it comes to blood and will sacrifice anything else to preserve themselves.

Your right on with the new tractor with a cab issue...I tried that this year with my wife........amazing how much colder it seemed to get when I mentioned it:eek:

Thanks for the technical and medical advices. Fortunately I do not have a circulation problem as warrantied by my doctor. Today I plowed 12 inches of snow with very old mittens worn over another pair of old wool mittens. I had a balaclava+ wool heat + hoodie + a wool scarf +a carhartt jacket with hood. Reading your recommendations now I feel like I have sensed something about covering the head. I still believe that they could make better mittens than the one's on the market in the 40-50 dollar range. I know that one can climb mount Everest with a 200 pair of gloves...

Like me, you may have Renaud's syndrome.

It is damage to the veins in the extremeties (usually hands) and generally caused by vibration.
Jonsered & Huskaverna discussed this in detail in some earlier user manuals.
It is why most chain saws now have rubber mounted handle bars.

In my case I ran old outboard motors a lot in my youth as well as an old Cobra chain saw; all without vibration isolated hand grips.

My solution is gortex lined deerskin work gloves.

My hands are so bad that I cannot feel the differance between a razor blade and a 5/16 bolt in a pocket.
Makes cold weather work very difficult.

I now always wear a 'Russian type hat with ear flaps' as the hair is also getting kinda on the thin side. (helps some)

Not mittens, but I bought "Grip" gloves by Wells Lamont w/ 60 gram Thinsulate, leather palms and nylon backs that are the best for me.

But I forgot where I bought them when thinking about X-mas stocking stuffers.

Something I haven't seen mentioned is neoprene gloves. Try a boat store or someplace that sells hunting clothing for duck hunting. Doesn't matter if they get wet and have good insulating properties. I have one pair that makes my hands sweat if it's not cold enough when I wear them.

I know exactly how you feel, Its the worst thin in the world! Mine hurt so bad after awhile that they feel like they are on fire. My doc put me on some pills but they didnt do anything to help with the issue. Im not sure about you but my fingers & eventually hand will turn white as if its dead. Pretty disgusting for those that dont know the cause that see it or touch my hand

leaving dinner with the wife I just grabbed the scraper from the toolbox and proceeded to scrape off the windows in 10* weather and my fingers were already starting to burn & turn color.
