I feel for ya, I really do.. You have described every problem that I have had with my backhoe since it was installed. I've tighted every bolt on that backhoe and 2 hours later they are loose again..

I'm wondering if the class of thread is wrong. That could be a possibility. Do the nuts wiggle (a little, a lot) when you spin them on the threads?

FIXED AT LAST...

Yes folks, the outstanding service of Carver Equipment has come through once again. Thursday 4/21 a Carver service tech showed up with bags of hardware, locktite, and an impact gun. Every nut and bolt on the BH subframe was removed, reinstalled (or replaced as needed) with lock washers (and locktite red), and torqued. While there he also brought a filter for my 35 hr maint. and a note pad to address any other issues I noticed with the tractor.

Ten hours later and everything is still tight as it should be. I stop to check every few hours so I won't make things worse if they do loosen up, but so far everything is holding as I expected it would.

Thanks to the fine folks at Carver for followeing up and sticking by me after the sale (even 250+ miles away). It confirms that my decision to deal with them was the correct one.

Gerard,

I think the issue is like Mr. Carver indicated. It took a couple of months for all of the pieces to come together and with so many hands in the mix over such a long time, some things just got missed.

It happens. The good thing is that they are doing the right thing and have made the necessary repairs. Gotta love a dealer who stands behind his product and service.

I felt sure you would have good service from Carver. Great.
I'm a little curious about the above quoted statement. Has the service been changed to 35 from 50 hours? Sounds like it could be a mistake because if you do it at 35, you may have to do it again sooner due to metal shavings building up from the new metal. I don't think I'd want to do it that soon. There will be a lot of mating of materials over the next 50 hours, and the magnet in the transmission plug will gather it up for removal when it's serviced at 50 hours. Thanks for updating us.

KiotiJohn,

This service is just a change of the engine oil and filter at 35 hours. The hydro filter screen is also cleaned.

The 50 hour service replaces the transmission and front differential fluid and a host of other things.

This schedule is according to the manual on the '05 LK3054xs (also printed on the underside of the hood). I would have to confirm what else is done at 50 hours, but since I will be doing the 35 hour service either this evening or next, I can let you know afterwards.

Oh that's interesting. On the CK20HST, you do it all at 50 hours!
I've never looked at the manual for the 3054XS. John

It doesn't surprise me that you may have taken delivery of your tractor with a missing bolt or two. It does surprise me that once you added locktite and tightened everything down that it would all come back apart again.

I found 2 bolts missing from the BH sub-frame on the New Holland when I got it. Kept hearing a vibration and couldn't figure out why until I slid down under the tractor for a better look-see. Didn't surprise me though considering the dealer used a couple of teenagers to prep the TC-40D. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I did just like you but our trip was to Ace Hardware as they have a better selection of larger grade 8 fasteners in this area. We never had a re-occurring problem once we used locktite and an impact wrench to be sure everything was tight.

Glad they got you squared away before parts started breaking on your BH.

I am not familiar with the exact bolt loaction you are referring to, but if you are screwing bolts into a blind hole (like a tractor casting) you must loctite the hole AND the bolt or it will not work. I was not aware of this till a year or so ago. Maybe you knew/did this already.. just a thought.... or if the hole is not blind it does not matter... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In our case the bolts were backed with nuts they did not thread into castings. I am a firm believer that they just weren't torqued correctly to start with. They are now locktite tite...
