IMHO, yes it is, it's the best, especially if it still has a lot of the straw from cleaning the stalls still mixed in with it. I've found that it's not as strong as some manures and is less likely to burn. It's best from stable kept animals as there are less weed and grass seeds. That stuff I've tilled directly into the soil in the fall and left it to breakdown all winter, ready for spring. Otherwise, I composted it for a year or so. I'll have to start running the back roads again to make friends with my horsey neighbours. There may be a goldmine out there that I haven't found yet.

I had 2 when I lived in the U.K. I loved those cars. In fact the manure was the reason my wife made me sell the first one. I was on my way back from the riding stable, coming down a steep hill, loaded up as usual when a dog ran in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and all those sacks of manure slid forward, the drivers seat tipped forward, trapping me against the steering wheel. Some of the sacks burst. Speak about the sh*t hitting the inside of the windshield. To cut a long story short, I never could get the car back to that "new leather" smell. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif My wife refused to ride in it after that so I had to get another one, only this time I got an 8' trailer to tow behind it. See, I do learn from experience. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yup, I'm pretty sure that's what it is. At one time I worked at a local commercial veggie and flower garden, and I asked an old-timer there what it was called. He said "pusley", but I believe purslane is the actual name. I've pulled out tons of the stuff.

I learned you can't always count on the old-timers. I asked another guy there about a different weed and he said it was called pigweed. So later I pointed to a different weed yet, and he said that IT was called pigweed. When I looked at him funny, he said "It's ALL pigweed."

So much for the botanical knowledge of oldtimers. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Well I wasn't going to respond to that question about which was better. But then my wife chimed right in and reminded me that the reason my eyes are brown is because I'm full of "it" and so that qualifies me as one of the experts in this field.

Well composted horse manure has always worked much better for our needs than cow dung. I'm really not sure what's in one that isn't in the other since I try not to get to close while I'm shoveling it, but it makes veggies really take off and that ain't no bull.

A boss I had some years back raised sheep and he swore that the sheep crap was the best there was for a garden, he said you could put it next to growing plants without any burning. I hauled several loads home and turned it into my compost pile. Seemed to be good stuff. Have any of you ever had bind weed get into your garden? Really hard to eliminate and grows very deep.

And why cant I find anyone around me like you??? Ive been looking for horse manure. And the closest I've come is a guy who wants me to come shovel out his stalls to get it.

Do a search on composting. Lots of hits and more information than one can retain.

Egon.

Yep. But I think I can get into serious trouble shipping organics around the country? Isn't there some national or state law I will run " a foul" over?

Actually, I will just move to a bigger piece of land in a few months. More land = bigger pile = bigger Tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
