in between now
I tried to reply and finish the ongoing post regarding expectations of what a new plow should look like. I was just turned off by the administrator, after being advised I cannot name specific vendors in discussions. Huh? Ok.
Not my site, not my rules. And ETA is an advertiser. I am unable to access the post/thread in any manner. I have been given the hook... I wonder if any of you can. I could break the rules and post the reply here, but I sent it to the Administrator and he's got it. Hopefully he will post it for you, and perhaps comment/remind us ( I didn't know and I guess I should have...) that "commercial disputes" cannot be discussed in the forum. Everything is explained and I'm sorry I can't post it for you. Drew daugen@voicenet.com

I hope it turned out to your satisfaction.

This site is owned by someone, and we play here as their guests.

Issues of free speach vs buisness sponcerships and so forth become very thorny _Very_ quickly on the internet, it's the last free open frontier.... We get scammers, we get free expression, we get censorship.....

I'm not commenting on just this site, it is a a very, very difficult situation to come to a good, fair answer to how things should be run, what is legal, and what is right.

Is it fair to only have good stories of products, no bad one's allowed? Another old tractorsite does not allow us to mention businesses that compete against them. Do paying advertisers get held to a different standard than non-paying businesses? and so on. Very thorny issues that haven't been sorted out yet on the final wild frontier.

Anyhow, hope things went well for you, it seemed mostly you just wanted someone to care and I hope you got that much! :)

Thanks for updating as much as you felt you could. Was kind of a rough issue for you all around.

Drew:

I've seen numerous commercial disputes discussed on TBN; but yes the site owners are more persnickety as to what they deem as allowable speech than other sites I belong to.

Drew,
By you labeling your new thread "Happy Ending" it sounds like some satisfaction recently came your way.

When a member complains about a business; whether dealership or manufacturer, we're only hearing one side of the story. Now we'd like to think all our members are honest and telling the absolute truth, but we actually have no way of knowing if it's a competitor who is trying to damage his competition. How would you like it if someone filed a lawsuit against you, and the court only heard that person's side of the story without hearing your side? I think most can understand why such things are not allowed on TBN.

It does seem that the mods pick and choice what threads they close with out an even hand. I read the op's thread and it seemed like it was much less blasfamous than many I've read here. But as they say don't bite the hand that feed you and I enjoy the forum so rules is rules.

At the top of the Attachments page is a Sticky post welcoming a vendor. In the very first post is the quote:
"Feel free to discuss your experiences with <vendor name deleted> in this thread."

So I can't say Kubota builds really crappy tractors and Deere screws people over on the cost of parts. What is the world coming to?

As I used to respectfully kid my parents and brother, the problem is too many lawyers...
I believe in telling the truth. Problem is I'm too blunt about it sometimes. If you are simply reporting what is true, how can anyone have an issue with that?
It should be simple, but is sure isn't. So when does negative opinion jump the line into malicious content? Do we have to make only namby pamby statements all the time, with carefully crafted conditional modifiers? Gives you a headache sometime. And I'll probably keep getting in hot water for speaking my mind too openly, but I'm learning to try to stay under the line of the censors. They snagged me once, I'm going to try to be more discrete from now on. I just need to know what the score is, and there are ways to get the point across. I am reminded of some typically cartoonish Stallone movie about some future time when machines on every street corner and telephone pole with microphones would fine you for swearing in public. It still makes me laugh. Maybe it shouldn't...

Drew, All of that being said in the other thread and this one. I agree that the phone should have been the first response. However, I feel that you were completly correct that the condition of that piece of equipment was unacceptable! And they as a company should be embarrased that it was shipped in that condition.

yup, that is the bottom line here, and the good part is that I honestly think that a similar company, not this one, speaking hypothetically, and only in general terms...sigh; will likely improve because of this discussion. Not exactly a silk purse out of a cows ear but some benefit.

My first plow as a wannabe farmer. Sure glad it wasn't a 50k new tractor... so maybe good I went through this "awakening" process. And now that I've painted my plow, I hope to get it in the dirt on Saturday. And scratch that nice IH red right off, like I'm supposed to. But I paid for that paint so I figure I should get to wear it off. I hope everyone got something worthwhile here.

I'm locked out of the old post so I have no idea what's going on there, but this is all I have to add. I think this topic is exhausted as am I and I'm going to bed.

In a politically-erect, sue-happy society, censorship is just part of the game.

Personally, I can't blame any forum or website for not wanting to become part of any legal dispute, but if I have a problem with a product or service, you can bet that I will find some way of voicing my opinion. Fortunately, the internet is a big place so there are many ways of doing it.

Remember, the company in the dispute is a sponsor of TBN. All they would have to do is threaten to pull the sponsorship to get a thread deleted. It is the capitalistic way. Money talks.

Not criticizing, just observing.

Maybe they did have something to do with the thread being locked. We don't know. As I stated toward the end of the last thread, there is very few times when I think a thread should be locked or deleted.

Bird mentioned we only heard one side of the story, this is true. However it was only because the other party involved chose not to respond. I find it hard to believe the company involved was not aware of the conversation.

There were a couple of other threads about another sponsor that turned a little ugly. That sponsor, to their credit stayed with the thread and answered all questions. Now some were not happy with the answers, but that is their issue. Since that company manufactures a product that I hope to purchase in the next year or so they will definitely be given strong consideration when I make my purchase.

I understand this is a commercial website run for profit and the advertisers pay the bills. I also understand the advertisers have the right to pull their advertising if they so wish. I just think it reflects poorly on a company that is unwilling to come on a public forum to defend their decisions. I believe a simple response something on the order of "we're sorry you were not happy with your purchase, please give us a call so we can work something out", would have gone a long way. This statement can be made if the person making the complaint is being reasonable or not.

As already stated by me, I feel it reflects poorly on a company that has a thread locked or pulled. This may or may not be the case, but one can only make the assumption that is what happened.

So you're convinced they knew of the conversation and chose not to respond. And what evidence do you base that belief on?:laughing:

Since apparently they did take care of it when they learned of it. You see I'm convinced that some of the companies advertising on this site, and other sites, don't have time to read all of these posts every day.;)

I have a sneaking suspicion that the company in question may not have even seen the thread before it was closed...

You are correct, I have no evidence they were aware of it. Just as you have no evidence they did not.
