The corollary to that is think about how much money you would actually save on the shipping side of the house, since the dealer would probably be getting reduced rates for bulk shipment. Shipping for me to CT was only $750, but I know those people in WA pay 2-3 times that.

Of course, I don't know that PT has a high enough volume to justify a dealer franchise.

It is my understanding that they used to have dealers, and the prices were reduced when they got rid of them.

That's what I was told. Also the dealers did not provide much support, PT did. So PT figured that people were not getting anything for the extra cost (25% I believe).

When I buy a vehicle, I have sometimes asked how much off I could get if I did not want the warranty. So far, nothing.

I do always buy the service manual. On my Tundra that was $500. Sounds like a lot, but it should pay for itself many times over.

Power trac should hire a ghost writer to write down everything terry knows about fixing machines and put it in a manual. That would be helpful.

Maybe he should write a service manual and sell it over the net himself. He would probably make out OK. :)

I have had my 1430 for two and a half years. It now has just ove 100 hours and has only had one incident requiring a new wheel motor while under warranty.

As for happy or unhappy! I would have to say that I am amazed at what it will do and I am reasonably happy with the overall purchase.

Not sure about the 1430's wheel motors, but the Whites on the PT-425 had hard seals. They have since changed the seal design. I have replaced one and put new seals in another. I am still waiting for the remaining two to leak.

I guess I would have to say happy.
I say this reluctantly, Because of all the trouble I have had with the unit.
Hydraulics were the major issue early on. But the other major source of trouble has been the (Robin) engine. It WILL NOT START if the temp drops below 50 deg. I own a fencing bussiness and it is important that my machines run when they are needed. The Power-Trac has left me stranded many times.
It got to the point that my workers are calling it the Power-Trash (sorry).
It is necessary for us to use a torpedo heater to start the unit (PT-425)when the mercury starts to drop. It also overheats horribly !!
The answer in my opinion, is a Honda engine. In design the PT is an all around "Swiss army knife". However, the huge maintenance issues leave me with a bitter pill to swallow. We have adopted an agenda with the PT, to use it only when needed and do the priority work with it first, out of fear of what might break next.

I recently had difficulty starting and found the choker flap was not closing when I was trying to use it. Dirt had gotten underneath the plate the airfilter sits on and fouled all the moving parts in that area. Once cleaned it worked fine and she readily starts again.
