I've heard nail polish works pretty good too. Haven't proceed it lately, but there's bound to be a discount brand at a decent price. Nice applicator too.

I've used nail polish, it does work but I'd opt for the real stuff if there was a critical issue in a contaminate environment, like fuel or oil mist or vapor. Nice thing about polish is that you can usually beg a bottle off a female acquaintance who doesn't like the color and was going to pitch it anyway.

To address the original question some reviews at HF compare them.

I have a friend that works for a glue manufacturer. They make nothing in their name but many of there products you've heard of by major brands. Some are the same products for different labels. If I see him this weekend I'll ask him what he knows about these products.

15 minute quick dry inexpensive spray paint. Holds good, will loosen when needed with a little ump and you know if you missed a nut. Spray it after tightening the nut. Might not work on a bolt threaded into a hole though.

I've used the red HF and it seems to work just as good as any.

Like the smoked sausage industry, it's likely made by either Permatex or Loctite and simply packaged in a HF labeled bottle.

I used to work at an Eckrich smoked sausage factory. We'd make the stuff, run half an order through a packaging machine and after so many cases change the film from Eckrich to Swift or Armour and run the rest of the order out. All the same sausage, different name on the package.

Next you'll tell me that gasoline at different stations comes from the same trucks. :D

In a pinch I've used Gorilla glue & super glue - Gorilla glue is better. Once you break the nut - using super glue - you can unthread the nut the remainder of the way by hand. Gorilla glue - like Locktite - provides substantial "drag" even after the nut is broken loose.

My approximately 30 year old axe has something that appears similar to dried and expanded Gorilla Glue oozing out from between the head and the handle. Coincidentally, I just concluded that it might be a predicessor to Gorilla Glue yesterday. I don't think GG was available until more recently.

I don't care who makes it but my discovery of threadlock was a life changing experience.

The Loctite I use is in a tube and is dispensed like lipstick. Never a mess. I never tried the harbor freight stuff.

Basically you have to just gum up the works a little. But I like that the blue has a known "release difficulty." And the red is more difficult, but they are both a "known" difficult.

Sounds like I just have to just test it myself, see if I like it. Will read the HF reviews, I forgot about them. Often there's a lot of them & some sound credible & experienced.

On old trick!
Basically nail polish is lacquer so it also fast dries.
Some glues, like Gorilla glue, probably would do in a pinch as well.

For a stronger lock you can also use epoxy, the 2 part mix kind. I observe that they often us epoxy in threaded air tool fittings as well.
