My complaints with slotted screws tends to be more on wood screws than bolts. It seems a lot of them have very shallow slots so the blade slips out if the screw is really tight. Don't really lend themselves to using a drill/driver either.

What would they do if you did break one since they no longer sell individual sockets, replace the whole set or "borrow" one from a set on the rack? I do seem to see quite a few socket or wrench sets in the bargain bin with one piece missing...maybe that's why?

Could be. Think I'd return the whole set but I have not broken one yet.

One HF stuff that sucks, their rubber tarp straps suck big time. One, they stink, Two, the don't last (fall apart) and Three, the hooks pull through the rubber part easily.

Total junk.

Yea they do. I had a few new ones wrapped around a air conditioner cover and didn't even last the winter without cracking and breaking.. I wouldn't even get them if they offered them with the free coupons.

I bought a bunch of HF dollies on sale. The little 12x18's and some 18x30's. All supposedly rated for 1000 lbs. I had my doubts, but lots of people use them and they're cheap, so why not?

Lol, here's why not: DSCN2682.jpg
Turns out the "wood" hiding under those black covered ends is just thin plywood withs some veneer:

It broke under one corner of a 745 lb rotary cutter when I was setting it down. To be fair, the cutter did drop hard the last inch or so (but there were three supporting endpoints, one being the rear wheel).
The way I ended up using it was like this: DSCN2681.jpg
with the wood piece in the opposite direction of the one that broke.

So... some dollies have survived their first day of use, others ... not. Live and learn, managing these tractor tools is all new to me. Meanwhile it's been 2.5 weeks and I'm still waiting for the 18x30 dollies, which are in stock per repeated phone calls but HF cannot seem to get their act together. Last time I buy from them mail order I think.

put them on proper pallets and move them with forks.

i think you were asking a but much from that. the dollies i have hold up fine with a large old drill press or a 5.3L cast iron Chevy on them, but not on a point load like that.

The weight needs to be evenly distributed across the carpeted sections and on top of the casters. The crossbars between are just that, crossbars/stringers, not intended to be weight bearing.

Those castors on the dollies are garbage. #1000lb rated?? maybe on the moon.

Good point, only the carpeted parts are weight-bearing. Like anything from HF take the rated capacity then don't exceed 2/3 of it. :)

I haven't had a problem with those. I prefer those over the larger ones rated the same weight.

There is a version of the dolly that is pure junk - the all-plastic replicas of that small one which are rated 200 lbs. I broke one of those the first day I had it. So I took it back for a replacement. No problem, go get one from the display. Before taking the replacement to the register I tested it - and broke it standing on it with just a slight bounce. I weight 180 lbs. The 200 lb rating for the plastic ones is bogus. The 'rating' seems to be the tested breaking strength.

The space shuttle probably only weighs 1,000 pounds on the moon,,
will it fit on one of those casters? :confused2:
