Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

I gotta ask.

How in the heck do you guys get the stores to accept those 20% off coupons on these items that are already on sale? Every 20% coupon I've received through their catalogs, email or out of magazines clearly said that it cannot be combined with other discounts or sales. I've tried and each time the clerk repeated the text printed right on the coupon.

I won't speak for others but I believe it depends on who you get and how good a mood they're in.

In three stores in 2 states around here, I have always used 20% coupons on sale items. They told me that you can't use TWO coupons for one item. (an item discount coupon AND a 20% off, for example). They can enter only one coupon bar code. If their sale flyer has a sale item with no bar code, you can use the 20% discount, but if the flyer ad has a bar code, you can only use one coupon or the other.

HF's Inside Track Club-

I saved some money last year on items advertised only in the ITC pages of the monthly brochure, and in the weekly emails. So I signed up again.

I'm not convinced this will save me anything this time. For ITC items I'm interested in now, I find they are also listed in sale brochures at a price where using a 20% coupon will buy the item at or below the ITC price. It will be hard to earn back the amount paid for the ITC 'membership'. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe ITC is only useful for an employer or school who will buy enough items, and enough multiples of these items, that the discount becomes meaningful.

It's just one of the mysteries of life. Buy at the sale price and hand them the 20% off coupon. It has always worked for me and that's just the way it is.

Should some sales person ever refuse I would ask for the manager to take care of it since the rest of the country, as far as I am aware of, functions this way.

If they aren't OK with it you can buy the same merchandise off the net for the same price anyway.

Since you're being refused I would take it up with the manager or maybe ask the home office. I have never heard of a coupon being refused for a sale item.

There are items that are on sale, and ones that require a coupon. You can't use two coupons on one item, but you can use the coupon on an item that is on sale.

And, only buy that one item. I bought 2 once and they took 20% of the 79 cent item instead of the $190 one :)

I've had them do something similar to me at the old store. At the new store they put in the new computer registers and it automatically puts the discount on the highest priced item.

Ah,okay. I've seen several posts that gave me the impression that folks were managing to get the 20% off on top of a coupon discount. I've used the 20% on the regular "sale" priced items as well and that can be a nice little savings on some things.

So back to your regularly scheduled discussion of HF tools that don't suck...

No, not any more. I used to do that all the time, but then they changed the fine print.
