Just talked to local heavy equipment dealer, they also sell JD and Kubota . He said Mahindra tractors were made in China and were mostly sold at tent sales, at least he has heard of them. I would never discourage anyone from buying what they like. I had thought he was looking for advice. Not wanting to piss anyone off, but really it would not bother me, to old for that.

Uh, Lucky - Your heavy equipment dealer has a lot of misinformation.

Mahindra is made in India, Not China

The 'tent sale' tractors are Chinese, never have seen a Mahindra at one of them either.

There are 3-4 Mahindra dealers within an hour of me.

Seems like every farm store is selling a Chinese tractor similar to the 'tent sales', Farm Pro, etc.

Mahindra built in China and India, for your information.

Mahindra bought a factory in China awhile back. I think JD and NH have investments if not outright ownership in some Chinese plants as well. I wasn't aware they were for the US market but, that may be so. Do a Google search on Chinese tractors and you might be suprised.

Apparently, Mahindra builds the (either the whole thing, or part of it) "Lenar" brand of tractors in China. I saw one a while back at a Lenar dealer close by. He made a point to show me the name tag on the Lenar stating, "Mahindra Tractor (China)" when I was bragging about my "Indian" built Mahindra 485 DI.

Travis,

Good luck with the purchase... Sounds like you made the right decision if you'll be running a 6' RC.

Later,

Sorry if my shotgun blast caught you in the spray of my reply to the "Mahindra = Off-Brand" boys. Ya just get sick & tired of that kind of BS comment appearing over and over again.

Sorry, but Mahindra IS an off brand. They might make the best tractor in the world, I don't know, but I won't be finding out anytime soon. I live in an area where people actually use their tractors for farming and I can guarantee that 9 out of 10 guys around here have never heard of mahindra. I bought an off brand tractor sixteen years ago, a brand that was all the rage at the time, and it's now sitting in the weeds for lack of parts support. All I really care about in the world of tractors is parts support. I don't care about how good the local dealer is beyond the warranty period, but I do care that I can find parts. The only mahindra dealer I know of is 250 miles away. A search of mahindra's website shows several within 100 miles, but I've been in most of those towns recently and I haven't seen any dealers of size. My guess is that these guys are fly by night operations operating as joe's tractor and lawn mower repair. Mahindra might be a world player, but they're a small player here in the U.S. and that's where I live and work. I can find parts for a john deere, massey ferguson, new hollland, case, or kubota with a quick thumb through the phone book. I can't do that with a mahindra and that's worth a lot of $$$ to me for the convenience of being able to fix my machine in a couple of hours vs. a couple of weeks waiting for parts to arrive from india.

Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes, but I've found that there is value in dealing with a name brand in equipment. Hopefully mahindra will one day become a name brand in the U.S. tractor market, but that day isn't here yet. Competition benefits all consumers and having mahindra as a major player will benefit everyone. When that day comes I might consider buying a mahindra, but for now I only want something that has JD, massey, new holland, case or kubota stamped on it.
