Hard starting 555E

I replaced the positive and negative cables. I replaced the ground cable that ran from the bolt on the starter to the frame of the machine to elininate and doubt wether or not there was a corrosion problem. All the ends that I cut back on the old cables had green corrosion in the for a long ways. I tested the battery and that tested out good. I put a charge on it tried it. It still seems like it starts out by turning slow but only for a fraction of a second and then its running. Maybe its the nature of the beast? Now the true test will be when I take the machine out for the night and try to start it on a cold morning. I can't do that until I fix the crack in the boom on the hoe end. So Stay Tuned!! When l trying cranking my backhoe up the starter gets very hot quickly .what could be causing that? And it also won't start!

what voltage is used on the 555E 12 or 24 volt ?

12 volts. One battery standard two optional.

Had a similiar problem on my 2000 model. Are you aware there are actually two batteries on the unit? The one you easily see when removing the grill cover is pretty easy. There is another battery underneath this one and you'll need to remove the top battery tray to access it.

The previous owner must not have know this as the bottom battery was original and totally drained.

Might have two batteries, might not. two were optional. You are aware that this thread is almost 7 years old and the most recent post before yours is 11 months old?
