Hard top canopy. Any suggestions?

This is what I purchases a few weeks ago.

I cant testify to its longevity or its long term durability as I haven't had it that long but it seems well constructed, very easy to install, looks nice (could easily be mistaken for factory manufactured) and very affordable. I just bought an almost new Case IH JX80 with rops and would like to put an aftermarket canopy on it. Needs to be rigid type, no soft tops. It doesn't matter if steel, fiberglass, aluminum, plastic, etc. I just need some suggestions for now so that I can start comparing. Thanks.

Now my question is what value is a FEL? Why would anyone ever put one on a tractor to hit stuff or wear the front end more than needed? It makes no sense for at least half the time you are running it is empty.

That is one of the reasons that most of our FELs are quick attach. I know that a lot of us do not remove them, but we could if we wanted to. Me, I like mine off, the tractor feels like a sports car compared to when it is on. On the other hand, I set that 16" pole by myself using the FEL, very easy. To be clear, my FEL is on most of the time, really the only time that the FEL comes off is to either mow or disk. Otherwise it gets used a big part of the time that the tractor is in operation.

Just my experience, others will vary.

I had an umbrella for my rig, and that was an improvement in summer comfort over no sunshade. Now I have a FEMCO canopy and it makes mid-summer heat tolerable. The FEMCO is a good unit and I found them pleasant to deal with when I ordered mine from them.

As for sound levels increasing with the canopy; without a sound meter to give definitive data, my subjective feeling is there was no increase in noise.

The only real noise was a mild banging when going over bumps and that was due to the amount of cantilever in all canopy designs. Once I put front posts on my canopy, the banging and vibration went away and it's much nicer.

But I want a cab as I'm tired of eating wind blown dirt when using the loader.

Whatever canopy you buy (or make) make sure it has sound suppression material - especially if it is of metal top construction. I made my own top from an aircraft structural panel (1/2" honeycomb aluminum) and the additional noise (reflected) was staggering until I added a 1 1/2" compressed fiberglass insulation board under it. I had see this on some tops before, and wasn't sure why they had it until I tried it bare. I would assume plastic tops are less reflective of the engine sound, but may also be an issue..
