Rake Harley rakes - why so much?

That shouldn't be a problem. Such a machine should roll over low stumps, kind of just chatter as the roller chews on them a bit. I think I got into unfamiilar ground and high grass, or I was just careless and in a hurry.

Well, I don't typically like to get rid of things. I'll let you know if I change my mind though.

Let me know if you want to borrow the 6 ft rototiller.
We might be able to do some sort of loan/borrow swap, e.g. I hold (& USE !) your 2 disk plow to ransom while you use the tiller (-:
That could give both of us a better feel for whether we want to buy the other implement at some point.
I wouldn't want to swap permanently though, the tiller is too useful to me for that.

As far as the question of rough use goes. I have pulled the harley through piles dumped with a dump truck and all too often windrowed pumpkin sized stones. Mostly round ones! It's just the way things are around here! It helps to have a fairly beefy (large frame) fwd drive tractor! What has been a problem is getting hooked on stumps. A while back I ripped the attachments points off the angling cylinder and it kept breaking as fast as I could weld it back on. Finally, I broke down and took the assembly apart for a better repair, and the extra time spent seems to have payed off.
Would a Harleyrake grind thru small stumps if pulled very slowly on a HST tractor?

We could absolutely do that. I've swapped implements with others in the past just as you suggested.

Ill send you a message.

Based on my experiences with an actual stump grinder, which has many teeth designed to CUT, it can take MANY sweeps to get even sapling stumps down,
my GUESS is that it would bump and jump on stumps, taking out a few chips and leaving a few score marks.
So you would need MANY passes to actually get THROUGH anything.
How slowly ? Probably inch, pause, by inch, pause, etc.
I try to lower the my stump grinder 1/2 inch or so per pass

The Harley rake is back rotating, which is how it is able to hook under rocks and bring them up.
Probably worth a try, depending on species and whether they are already half soft rotted in the ground, it could work.
Maybe, maybe not (-;

Does anyone know if Harley/Woods rake will work with a quick hitch?

Does anyone know if Harley/Woods rake will work with a quick hitch?

I use mine with a Harbor freight A frame type of "quick hitch", but only because I already had the thing, had no other use or it and it just happened to space it far enough back that I didn't need to cut the PTO shaft.
The harley rake lives with the A-frame quick hitch mounted to it, I just hook a tractor up to that thing when I use the rake.
I see no reason that it wouldn't work with similar (so called) "quick hitch" gadgets - nothing beyond the problems that come with the gadgets themselves, the harley rake will in no way solve THOSE issues (-:

You could try it, if it doesn't work out you could discard the gadget and be rid of it - THAT would work.

Thanks Reg!

I get the feeling your not too fond of them  Sounds like it should work though.

Another question, I called Woods to get a rebuild kit for the seals on the hydraulic cylinder that control the angle, and they said they don't sell a seal kit. Does anyone know where/how to get a seal kit for that cylinder? I'm going to need one before using it again, either that or another gallon of hydraulic fluid

It does SEEM that they work just fine, if you come in dead straight and the implement and tractor are level to each other,
otherwise I might as well do things the regular way.
I have to get off the tractor to hook up everything else anyway, top link, hydraulics, PTO, etc., so where's the "quick" ?
I shouldn't "BASH" them though.

I hooked mine up a few minutes ago and I was WRONG about the A-frame - it is in fact on the 6 ft King Kutter tiller.
Take note that the additional set back COULD require a longer shaft if your existing one is near its max safe extension length.

The angle cylinder on my HARLEY rake (not Woods) looks like a fairly standard small cylinder with fork ends.
Not sure I would mess with re-building it, given the age of mine I will probably just replace it if/when it leaks noticeably.
There is a sticker mine with the number 709864 on it - again, this may just be a HARLEY number that is of no use
on a Woods rake.
I would take a couple of measurements and check here;
Surplus Center

In case anyone (other than Swimbo) questions my sanity in hooking this up TODAY, here is why:
I have been scraping snow away and took the top off some surface roots.
While the ground is FROZEN and I have little else better to do I thought I would EXPERIMENT with getting those roots down
to where they don't matter.

I am HOPING that the frozen ground will hold onto them and they won't whip around like they might when the soil is soft.

Just a side note. Parts for the Harley Rake used to be quite reasonable and they would ship direct.

Now, they have been bought, prices have become STUPID, and getting parts through a dealer (Here in Canada) has become a nightmare. Ended up having a friend and machine shop make me a new shaft that broke. It was WAY cheaper.

Cannot reccommend this manufacturer anymore. Besides, they don't make the PRO 8 anymore, just some cheaper version with only one roller!
