Has anyone bought a FNAR 308 rifle ? looking for feedback

The Savage is a nice little do everything gun, my brother had one in .22/.410 when we were kids. I think you'll be pleased with it.

If you really want to get into AR-10 rifles the forum to hang out in is ar15.com. The general discussion section can get really rowdy and you'll need a thick skin, but the AR-10 sub-forum is where you can get a good answer to any question you have might have.
Like any place you have to separate those who know what they are talking about from those that talk about, but the knowlegable members are really good at keeping the knuckleheads from giving out bad information.

Lol..

Just like on any forum, how do you know that it isn't the knuckleheads that are keeping the knowledgable members from giving out good information..

I just had to say that for ironic effect. Real life is a minefield of good and bad advice.

Then why did you specifically state:
"Since I will shortly be permitted to own a firearm again after a 10 years abstinence..." The prohibition of firearms possession was 10 years for a felony conviction in the State of Michigan. Something doesn't add up with your statement and the facts!

There is absolutely no mention of a 10 prohibition of firearms possession in immigration law or the likes - - - only for a conviction of a crime is there a time frame limitation.

Anyway, this certainly has nothing to do with Gravely, Allison or the likes so I'll end my part in this post which should, more than not, be on a gun forum.

ciao

The short answer is: Yes. No conviction, no criminal record, passed all background checks, served with allied forces against the soviets, but not permitted firearm ownership until at least a permanent resident in the US. US sponsor companies generally will wait until the "last minute" of your non resident status to file for resident status, since you do not enjoy the same rights as US citizens in the interim. My case proceeded in the same way as many before me.

Its simple math. I abstained for 3 years in germany and 7 years in the US until I obtained resident status. Abstinence can be voluntary or involuntary. In my case it was voluntary in Germany and involuntary in the US.

Your association of my abstinence with a perceived prohibition due to a felony is something you put together in your mind. I didn't want to go into all the detail, but didn't see an alternative when people are starting to speculate about what kind of felony I must have committed.

The government doesn't set a specific time limit on when aliens cannot own firearms. Its simply a question of how long it takes until one reaches residence status.

This is a rural living forum. I didn't post this in one of the tractor forums, since I felt that it was more likely that people living in rural areas may have the exposure and advice I was seeking.

Why such a combative attitude ?

No doubt on your point, I mentioned the difference between being certain and being correct in another thread just a little while ago.

me thinkith you protest too much...

I think the OP has gone out of his way to answer some questions as to why he couldn't previously own a firearm in the US (and the nerve of the OP to include truthful information about himself that he didn't need to:thumbsup:).

Interestingly enough, YOU were the first one to bring up the phrase "felony conviction", and I may be incorrect, but you where so far out in left field that you weren't even in the stadium.

Lets see, the OP has over 400 posts on a tractor forum, and then asks about peoples experiences with a semi auto rifle. Yeah, I guess that's the standard norm for ex convicts to gain information about firearms:laughing:

After several years of thinking about it... two years ago I opted for a Springfield Socom 16 with a half dozen 20 rd. magazines.

It is sorta my "Teddy Bear" in a world going to crap..... although thinking I could utilize 120 rounds in any situation that went bad is truly optimistic.

Hmmm, rethinking the situation -IF (?) my original assessment of the matter was incorrect, then I would submit it was a direct result of the OP's own wording - i.e. "Since I will shortly be permitted to own a firearm again after a 10 years abstinence..."

If so, the perhaps a simple "I haven't owned a gun in 10 years but I'm thinking of getting one again" would have been more to the point instead of wording which has dubious connotations.....

The OP was perfectly truthful in his statement. You leaped to conclusions. Leaping to conclusions was ok the tone of the posts accusing the OP of being a felon and not being truthful is not ok.

Later,
Dan

If I have misgivings about the motive of someone posting on a forum, it only takes a few minutes to see what posts the member has made in other threads.

Given that my immigration thread is only a couple of weeks old, anyone who had done any research would have found it pretty quick and I posted information about my inability to own firearms at that time. I really didn't want to repeat the whole song and dance..
