Has anyone converted a full size backhoe to a quick attach bucket?

" This is how I justify buying tools. I couldn't justify spending $3k to buy what's probably 1/5 the cost in steel. To me that $2500 can buy a lot of really useful tools. I just space it out over time picking the tools I could use first. "

Al, sounds like we're "brothers from different mothers"
Check out my pics a couple pages back for confirmation; now all I need is 4 times as much time and energy ...Steve

Buying extra tools is just plain foolish.

I know you have considered cloning but be sure to read this first.

Would a JD 48-58 adapter work?

I had seen this style earlier, but with a 3,000 pound rating. This one is 5,000.

It can be made to fit a John Deere 310j.

5000 isn’t enough. It’s 9500 pound breakout strength and 6500 full height lift.

5000 is about as good as it gets in a ssqa.

I found one to fit my 575E but it looks pretty light and had no listed rating.

I talked to MTL a while back and they said they would convert one of their extreme grapples to pun on my machine.

Call Washburn at 800-283-7107 and ask if they can build one strong enough for a John Deere 310j.

Typical North American. Agricultural equipment also 10 years behind.

Actually, Europe is following the North American tillage practice and leaves the moldboard plough. I would say in Ag its the other way around.

You are probably right about tillage practices. However I think Europe has led the way for efficient hitching mechanisms (front and rear) to increase productivity while saving fuel and decreasing compaction.

I always felt they also excelled in developing mechanical harvesters for the crops typically left to human”reaping “in North America.

Unless you are planning on using other quick attach attachments I would stick with doing the hook design (as seen in posts 24 and 36 (the case backhoe)). You're not going to know for sure how much force is going to be on it. Just for safety reasons alone. If you can get a local machine shop to cut up the steel and you don't mind trading firewood then that sounds like a good option. Clearly the single cylinder Deere has made it more complicated.

Not more complicated, just different than tractor guys are used to.

Both of our Bobcats are single cylinder and the SSQA plate is very strong:

Here it is with over 6,000 pounds of force on the plate, note that the rear wheels are off of the ground

I did order mine from washburn. They claimed it should be good for 7000 lbs. I also bought two 7000 lb rated SSQA attachment blanks. The stuff seems like it it tough enough for my 210, but the 310 is like 60% more in every way. The washburn adapter that I received is a piss poor design, that can damage the curl cylinder, has very little roll back, and the lock pin handles are a nightmare to use. But hey, at least it was cheap! I just hope that they can do a better job on the drawing board for the next guy...
