I occasionally will use a logging chain connected to the back of my 3320 to pull a stump up. Has anyone had any transmission problems related to this? Sometimes a little momentum is required.

If you were yanking, then that is not good for the equipment. Things break. I can imagine all kinds of problems that will/can result from yanking, if that is what you mean.

Steady pull is the way, and if it doesn't work figure out another way to loosen the object.

Is the tranny acting up now?

is an eHydro another name for a hydrostatic transmission? I've not actually had any problems with stump removal. I have found the drive is tight enough to stall the engine if the stump won't move - much like forgetting to push in the clutch when stopping a regular stick shift.

watch out for snapping whether chain or cable you are doing this with and them then becoming a whip that can kill.

A tractor with structural aluminum cases and final drive housings is not the choice to "yank" stumps. While those cases are strong, that's not the type of shock the were designed for.
In the end, it's your tractor and wallet

For the few stumps I've removed with my 3520 with eHydro, I typically run out of traction before anything else. Best to loosen the stump as much as possible prior to pulling. Personally, I would not risk jerking the stump. Good luck!

I cut the stump down to 6" tall, then grind to several inches below the ground using my stump grinder, the rest will rot away.
In instances in which I have to jerk on the load such as using my 4x4 truck to get someone out of a ditch when conditions are so icy that I would never achieve forward motion from a dead stop I use my 3" wide recovery strap.

My neighbors employee attempted yanking on chain with JD 5603 cab tractor(99HP) attempting to pull a rubber tired loader of being stuck. Chain broke taking out rear window,LH door & windshield narrowly missing tractor operator. Only thing that cures some ignorant things is prior experience or death.

We had a farmer in this area die that way, buried the clevis in his back, and he bled out. Nothing anyone could do to save him.

Depends on the stump I guess. My 3320 eHydro’s not stout enough to do a lot of yanking on anything substantial and I also usually run out of traction before horsepower.

make a circle of PRIMACORD around the trunk, and detonate it, that will disconnect all the roots, and you can then easily pull the stump out!..

I have yanked out hundreds of hawthornes back in the 70s with a 2wd 42pto no loader tractor. Conventional, large frame typical of the time. Used more the weight and momentum of the tractor, than tractive effort. Otherwise, there would be a lot of ugly tire dug holes. You would push in the clutch just as the chain tightened up. I can't see doing that with a hydro.

Seems like every little town across the USA has that story.

More than just a "legend", the local feed store owner knew the guy. His neighbor got stuck in the mud, trying to pull him out was sadly his last actions on earth. Things can happen way too fast.

I get compost delivered by the tri axle and 18 wheeler load every fall to fertilize. One time the 18 wheeler got stuck, so the tri axle tried to unstuck him. They used a chain and both trucks were nose to nose. The tri axle went backwards and the chain went taught and just snapped. It didn’t fly through the windshield. It just broke and harmlessly fell to the ground.
I’m not condoning using this method, just an observation.

Every town across the country also seems to have the guy killed standing under the raised loader story.

When yanking trees/stumps, it all comes down to technique, speed, and endurance.

If the front wheels want to come off the ground, you are doing something wrong.

One less guy to violate the planet so unnecessarily!
