Has anyone heard of a Unimog Truck?

I only used it once this year and that was the trip to Henro's place. Amy and I are going to Ohio this weekend to visit some friends.

I like to stay overnight and sleep in my own bed. I also like having my own bathroom!! And, I forgot, hot coffee and oatmeal when I wake up.

I am planning to retire next June. The Lance will get a lot of use then.

Parts availability is very important, I am not getting ready to buy one anytime soon.
I currently have a Chevy 4x4 1/2 ton and I need to eventually get a bigger truck for my part time logging work ,the 4x4 gets the job done,I can pull about 7000 board feet of logs on my 16'trailer,but I use the gears a lot. My truck has a V-6 engine,but then again If I had a larger truck I would want a bigger trailer as well and have a gooseneck.
The way it is now I keep my speed 30 to 35 mph on the highway because I sometimes get a lot of sway which is not good.

A friend of ours has a camper too. A Pervost. His camper has a marble bath, a 500 horse diesel and a master bedroom with a roof that opens up so you can see the stars. It was a bit more expensive than mine. About $340,000.00 more!! His isn't 4wd either.

He took us to Cedar Point in it this summer. Very nice, but way, way out of my league.

Try www.prevost.com and hang on to your wallet. This ain't no camper body on a Unimog with a chemical toilet and a coleman stove!!!

I like a Mercedes motor but the tolerances are tight and in nowhere Mississippi there aint alot of used ones. I found a nice 85 Ford F600 4x4 with a hyadraulic and pto winch and a nice steel flat bed with a rear winch. I think I can get the whole thing for 1500. Theres an old Halftrack about 75 miles from here I can get the whole rig for 2500. THe fella put in a 6.5 liter deisel out of a Chevy 1 ton. Take care Taylor Lambert

That definately is not a Unimog camper or redneck cabin or a pop up either !!!
Amazing that there is that kind of money out there to even justify making these castles on wheels.
Your friend must be in a pretty good position to own one.
Nice link,I can dream .Heck I have been in some fifth wheel campers I thought was like a castle,I guess a fifth wheel would be a servants quarters,next to one of those.

Somewhere out there in Unimog land is a company that installed Chevy V6's in the Unimog. It adapts to the Unimog's tranny/transfer case. Take your Benz to the Chevy dealer for a tune up /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Our friends just completed a new 9 million buck building to house their custom machine shop. They have 150 full time machinists and make final drive units for Abram's tanks among other things.

The Pervost is chump change for them. I, like you, can only dream.
