Has anyone powered a generator off a truck?

Many of the Electric Utility trucks demand inverters to power their lap tops and tool battery chargers. This always seemed like a waste to me. DC to AC to DC!

Ambulances have been running off generators for years. Most use Onans. They use residential AC units with them instead of RV AC units. Also with the 30 amp shoreline you can plug it in to keep your cooler, instead of the AC, working when you are not using the truck. Here is one of the largest manufacturers in Texas to get an idea of how it is done.

I started a home inverter project that might work for you. The base was a 3000 watt (continous) commercial sinusoidal inverter that will supply 6000 watts for xx second ( I'll have to look up) I have a high output alternator to feed batteries. You could add several alternators that would produce at idle and that would take the high rpm road travel. you'd need 250 amps at 12 v to produce 3000 watts. So take a close look at your needs, With extra batteries, you could have power with no engines running. All depended on load and storage capacity.

I can't explain all the other happy Champion customers. Never heard of a Coleman, Honda , Yamaha , Generac or Homelite ever failing.

I've heard of several Champion generators taking a dump, and those that repair generators, say they are cheap made and are pretty much a throw away...

Champion isn't anything I would be excited about. I don't care for that type of stuff. But a neighbor brought over a Champion Log splitter that would not start. It needed a coil. The excellent level of service from Champion was amazing and the coil was cheap. An Onan one might have cost a few hundred bucks! Actually, I might almost bet that an Onan Coil (any Onan Coil) would cost more then the whole Champion Motor.

There's plenty of room on that bus for a generator. You could also put a deck on the back and put it there as well. Lots of food trucks have them on the back.

Had my interactions with Champion been inside the warranty period, my story would likely end differently. But its a yes or no question, out of warranty out of luck.

It did run well, until it didnt. Had a remote starter fob, that was nice. I may replace the motor with one from harbor freight.... Some day.
