Has anyone taken delivery of a 4010?

I don't think the 14 horse PTO will operate a 4 foot rotary cutter except for field grass cutting, just based on my experience with a 4 foot hog behind the 16.7 PTO horse BX and 18 horse PTO 2410. Me, since you don't like the BX then I don't think you will like the 4010 so I vote for the 4110 as being a good match for Mr. Bigpete. I had the opportunity to use a NHTC18 while home, it was a real sweet unit, had a 4 foot hog on it but I have to say it worked harder than the BX you don't like. In fact, just me, my 2410 handles the hog only slightly better than the BX. I think the 2410 and maybe the 4110 could use a 60 inch for field grass cutting and if First Choice comes out with their new side shift capable 54 inch cutter it would be perfect for the 2410/4100/4110 size tractor as a general purpose cutter except for the heaviest brush perhaps. Just a different perspective. J

Tres,

Glad you approve of my ride /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

I still stand behind my position that a 4010 will do everything a 4110 will, only slower. However, If Pete plans on some hard use, he will appreciate extra HP. I'd say bump up to the 4115 or TC24 or B2410.

The 60" RFM I have now works the TC18 hard. If I go up a steep hill or into tall grass, I notice an RPM drop. Based on my finish mower experience, I'd say a 42" cutter would be a better match for the 14 PTO HP.

I would have bought more HP if the budget allowed. Maybe in 20 years I'll be able to upgrade.

J,

You are pointing to where I will likely end up. As I mentioned in another thread about the 4010, the functional capacities of the PTO and hydraulic system may move me upward.

That's always been my contention with the BX, rather than a dislike as I guess you have interpeted from my posts. "Like" got nuttin' to do with it at this point. I'm just preparing my case for a larger tractor to be presented at a later date to "she-who-must-be-convinced." /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Shucks Haz, I always liked them. I liked the way it felt and zipped around, sat a little higher than the BX and was nearly as manuverable. The little TC just felt good and it handled the hog OK, don't think it did not, we were just cutting field grass and it moved along nicely and I am sure some light brush would not be an abuse. I do think the BX has more power but it has a larger engine. Anyway, I would buy a TC18 mini tractor in a heart beat if I was looking again for a small neat tractor.
Pete, she who needs convinced, well, let her do the work and she will be she who is convinced.
While, I, mister argumentative, have gleaned from your post that you feel the BX is roughly equal to the JD455 you own and it really does not matter cuz I think you should get the 4110 or even 4115 (equal to the 2710/2910--not 2410). Either of these will do nicely, probably from all that you said it seems you want a solid step up from the 455 so that would be the 4110, not the 4010 which is probably a less powerful/capable tractor than the BX, but I could be wrong. I only have the tractors I own or have used as a yardstick to compare. J

J,

You're right...I know I need a big leap. She-who-must-be-convinced is a pragmatic scientist, so I must proceed in a pragmatic and scientific way. Oh, yeah..no it doesn't hurt to say that you are right publicly, but the minions will be watching you to see whether that seemingly innocuous compliment causes cephalic inflation on your part.

Actually, it hurt my fingers to type that and I don't even know what I said, for sure.

No re-hashing. All of my past debates were based in what a garden tractor/sub-compact (JD4XX/BX whatever) would do for me and the tasks I now have to do. I do everything with the machine that I now own that I now need to do, and a bigger machine, BX or bigger, would do for me exactly the things that I now do but with a bigger machine. Now my head hurts, too. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Anyway, I have a lowball offer in on 14 acres of timber/marsh with a "branch" (that's Delaware-ese for "crick") running through it. If the deal comes together, I'll have one of those bad-alec logging companies clear a road or two and consider options for further development. Maybe for my own next home; maybe I'll have to politically peddle and paddle for a progress permit that will allow me to deed the land out into a few large single-family bulding lots for resale. I'm now schmoozing and schmutzing with the EPA wetlands guys trying to figure out how much I can do with the land but, because I'm not the owner yet, I am all but transparent.

MAYBE I'll just build my dream "Swamp Chalet" Bed and Breakfast and all of you guys can trailer your tractors to Delaware, pay me for beds, beer, and omlettes, and in return I'll let you guys use your CUTS to brush hog, pull drainage tile trenches, and skid logs. As much as we all love seat time, maybe a Compact Tractor Playground has some commercial merit. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Either way, I'll probably end up keeping the JD for all my mowing and turf-tending duties and buy a capable CUT with a loader and brush hog.

Okay, I considered, after the fact, purchasing a small Cub Cadet riding GT/LT type machine and getting a bigger tractor that my 2410. I think the 2410/4110/4100 NHTC21 is probably as big as I could see practical really using a MMM on and expecting good results and little or no damage to the lawn when used. For an all purpose all around machine they are not ideal but are pushing the envelope just a bit but still are PRACTICAL. If you intend to keep your JD mower then might I suggest going bigger such as NHTC25 or bigger or a Kubota L3010 or a JD4200 or the unique Kubota 2910 (big tractor power in a small and lighter frame--30 horses in a 1800 lb machine (bare) vs 30 horses in a 2800 lb machine (bare) for the L3010. I think you would be happy with a 4110 even if you kept the little JD mower. J

J,

I love that..."Little JD mower." Always the antagonist, aren't 'cha. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Have fun, and either sleep in a bit or go to bed earlier. We're starting to get worried about your 4 a.m. posts.

Shoot I work nights. It gets me a 3 day weekend unless we go off site or something unusual.
Hey, if I cannot stir the pot or yank chains what fun is it? It is a good thing you don't work with me, I am always playing jokes on people. I told one coworker, responsible for the XX1 proto that the XXprepro was 10 knots faster. Then I went down and told the guy at the fuel pit the same thing. He is a big blabber mouth so soon it got back to Flight Test who demanded to know from my coworker why XXprepro was so much faster and what is so great is they are the ones that fly it so they ought to know it isn't.
The "little" mower comment was innocent /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif . Take care. J

Tres-J,

Ah-ha, now I get it. ...Get home from work where you antagonize pilots and log on to antagonize Deere fans while they sleep. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif That's alright, I hear you. I tend to antagonize a bit myself, but it has to be done affectionately or I might end up on the night shift /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. What a bummer that must be /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Just wondering /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif ...now that you have your foot in the door in both the aeronautical and agricultural/CUT tractor areas, wouldn't it be logical to expand the effect to other transportation related industries? Let's check it out. Maybe we could find an automobile board where we could play opposite sides of the brand loyalty board and kick up a little dust. From there, we could move on to, say, snowmobiles, motorcycles, ; heck, I wonder if there are any brand-pride issues in the nautical or railroad segements wherein we could exploit and have a bit of dark-side fun /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif.

All funnin' here. Of course I do see experience in your posts that make up for your other humanity issues.

Have a great weekend,

There was an article in the Aviation Technology paper about Japaneses industry. It seems Mc Author brought Dr Demming, an industry specialist in manufacturing processes, who had been fired by Henry Ford, to Japan to help rebuild Japanese industry. He proclaimed that the Japanese had no processes and they built junk and he went about designing an economy for the Japanese--we see the result today. Yes, to this day, some Japanese executives wear a black arm band to honor Dr Demming and their highest achievement award is named in his honor. Yes, an American, admired by our greatest General and laughed at by the MBA types in American Buisness, created the Japanese economic juggernaught, while the smug MBA types back home laughed at him. No one is laughing anymore--save for the aviation industry. Well, Toyota certified the Lexus based V8 a few years ago, now they are introducing a 4-place light aircraft and Honda is developing a light bizzjet with their own Honda turbine engines that look remarkably like Williams Jet but are much cheaper. The formula for their success is to find a niche market or better enter at the bottom of the pyramid and sell below cost with higher quality to establish a market share, then move up one level, sell at a loss, establish a market share and then move up one level etc. When the market is dominated increase prices to stabilize the product flow while maintaing high quality and loyality. Introduce new products that have unique features (nifty small compact diesel hydros)or capture or invent new markets to confound the competition (BX) and capitilaize on the competitions weakness, price and quality and volume and most importantly the "we have always done it this way" syndrome--infexibility--provide immediate response to changing market conditions, build in obsolescence to increase sales volume further lowering prices. You can see obsolescence working in the computer industry where prices have fallen so dramatically and the electronic industry as a whole. It does not mean to build a product that falls apart--NO--it means always be improving the product so that customers WANT the new xyz machine.
The article went on to conclude that a serious investment in the aviation industry by Toyota would within a decade have them competing against Boeing and Airbus before either of these two giants recognize they have an adversary to contend with.
Resistence is futile or is it?, I hope there is more than one way to skin the ol' cat and the old dogs can learn some new tricks and perhaps sending a conquered enemy your greatest military and economic minds to rebuild them is not so wise a thing to do but it was the "good" thing to do, the brotherly thing to do and that is why these two men are so revered in Japanese culture today and the modular nukes they have stashed away are not aimed at us but at China cuz you don't bite the hand that feeds you and you don't spit into the wind. Yep, they learned that lesson, fight the wars you can win, neutralize the others. J
