The frost is coming off the ground, the ponds and lakes are actually opening up; earlier than normal, but still too slow.
I normally like the cold season but it's been brown all winter this year, and I'm ready for a change.

I hope so- I just took the snowblower and chains off my tractor! forcast is in the 50's the rest of the week, rain Friday- cooling and junk on Saturday-but it can't last...I hope....

We've turned the corner in the Pacific North West and are mostly out of the wet. It's mild and half our days have blue skies now.
A couple weeks back I made a little slide show of spring on the farm for my daughter who's four and a half thousand miles away. It's a bit of a long file so takes some time to download but for anyone who can be bothered waiting, here's the link.

I should have added, don't bother trying if you don't have high speed. I'd have liked to have made the file smaller but couldn't see how with the programme I used.

The ice went off the pond on Monday and the Robins, ducks and Kill Deer are back. Spring is here! We have a little snow left in the woods and with no rain in the past week things have dried up pretty well. Very short mud season this year. I expect to see our Amish neighbors pulling their sap buckets any day, the commercials folks gave up late last week.

I was staying up in Canton back in 2001, and they used to ride their carriages down through town. It was pretty neat. I always meant to go visit their store, but never found the time.
Last week we were up above Lake St George; there was a little 30 acre pond nearby which they're still driving cars on. The day I was there (3-20) it was cold enough so you could hear it making ice. Amazing how fast things change this time of year.
Mud season is just starting here, but with rain coming on Sat. I hope the frost will go out in a hurry.

Ice on a pond; what's that? I've mowed, edged, and trimmed the lawn twice, fertilized once, and plan to rent a core aerator this weekend if it isn't raining. And it'll need mowing again by then anyway.
