I never said it did.

Pulling more and more money out of the private sector via ever increasing taxes. Borrowing more and more money to fund more and more government spending is not only prolonging the economic down turn, it's making it worse. Just yesterday John Deere indicated the health care legislation will cost them $150 million. I believe Caterpillar reported it'd cost them $100 million. How does this help create jobs? No business, large or small, would expand or hire in this environment.

Mike ..I have to see the news story. Please post.

Sounds like what we have in Canada. We work about half the year just to pay all the different taxes. :(

Up our way we are not suppose to use the word welfare anymore. The correct political wording is ?b>social assistance</b>? :D:D

Ha, in Ontario welfare has been renamed "Work Ontario"!!!

That sounds even better. Although the taxpayer works and the person(s) on social assistance works at spending it. My next door neighbor, who is on welfare, has enough money to buy LOTS of beer and cigarettes. :(
Does make you wonder? :confused2:

George Orwell was right. This is newspeak.

Work = welfare.
Just so there's no confusion = I want to confuse you.
Some people say = No one says.
Let me be clear = Let me obfuscate.
John Dingell - "...it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people."

Mike, from what this article says:

Companies such as Deere & Co (DE.N) and Caterpillar Inc (CAT.N), which have large ranks of retirees, can no longer deduct from their taxes the subsidies paid by the federal government for retiree drug benefits.

I'm not sure you can correctly characterize the loss of a tax subsidy as a tax. Medicare part D covers prescription drug costs for Medicare recipients and the bill as I understand it increases the prescription drug benefit to seniors.

Sorry,
Got to disagree, The genesis of the meltdown was the Community Reinvestment Act. To answer an earlier question about the "lack" of oversight, Do you REALLY want someone who wanted to "throw the dice a while longer" referring to not reining in Fannie & Freddie, running the system. Well enjoy, because that is exactly what you have, Thanks Barney!
If you want to talk about REAL irresponsible behavior, just look to Washington, they have a lock on it.
Was that "political"?:)

Of course you do. :laughing:

If you guys really need a political discussion fix, go somewhere else. This thread should be closed now rather than let it slowly meld into the kind of B$ the stupid climate change "discussion" became. We can all express our opinions, pi$$ each other off, and get nothing decided. That's the definition of a political discussion these days.

Bird, do your thing, please. Other moderators seem too preoccupied.

What?????? :confused2:

The companies listed in that article will have their expenses go up, plain and simple. Their reaction will be one or more of the following;

1. Higher fewer people
2. Lay people off
3. Raise prices.

While companies write the check to pay the taxes, their customers pay them via higher prices.
