Tch, Tch. It may suit your philosophy to make this about me and not the tax code. That doesn't alter the facts W. Buffet was pointing out.

'benefits the wealthy' is simply an expression which has some validity since a certain level of wealth is needed typically before anyone will earn significant investment income. I would suggest turning down the sensitivity on your radar :)
Dave.

Thanks Dave, I have not been able to turn it down. Perhaps there is no adjustment knob.

Thanks for the discussion nonetheless.

You are right. You and your wife have worked hard, lived within your means and saved for the future. It sounds like you and your wife have been married quite a while? If so, you and she chose well and are a bit stubborn :p

Kinda funny story about getting married. We had to take a marriageability exam with the pastor of our church. She is Catholic, I no longer was. The priest tells us to answer the questions honestly, not how you think your spouse will want you to answer. There were 6 areas of questions: Finance, religion, children, marriageability, hockey and potpourri (I don't remember the last two). We filled it out in separate rooms and came back a week later to review the results with the priest. We scored 95% compatible on finance, children and marriage. We scored 95% incompatible on religion, hockey and potpourri. The priest says "Hey, 50-50! You got just as good a chance at succeeding as everyone else!" and we all laughed hard! It will be 25 years in September. If you ask her, I am the one that chose well.

We are fortunate that we have jobs that offer O.K. health insurance, although that is going up and there are more hoops to jump through every year. I would be ticked about it, except everyone else in the country has to deal with it, too. ;)

O.K. I see some of you have pointed out the thread has drifted into politics... maybe we should move on for now in the interest of following the rules?

Good marriage story. I like those kind of things. The priest was very honest with you :)

What?????? :confused2:

The companies listed in that article will have their expenses go up, plain and simple. Their reaction will be one or more of the following;

1. Higher fewer people
2. Lay people off
3. Raise prices.

While companies write the check to pay the taxes, their customers pay them via higher prices.

Mike,

Are these the only alternatives?

If they lose the tax right off for providing prescription drugs to their retirees that in many instances may already be available through the prescription drug program, then they (the corporations) can choose not to offer the benefit. Another alternative would be to continue to take the charge and let the shareholders pay for it.

On the other hand, the bill provides tax subsidies to many small businesses who want to provide health care benefits to there employees but can't afford to.

Folks can look at this bill from any angle and find things to carp about and things to praise it for. But regardless of how you feel about it Mike, health care is going to be paid for one way or another.

" health care is going to be paid for one way or another." > Not neccessarily - remember always there is always rationing - you may not be approved for the treatment you need and worse, you may not even be allowed to pay for it yourself without leaving the country to do so. There will be a government panel making decisions not you or your doctor.

I've gotten annual bonuses for at least the past ten years and it's always taxed at the same rate as other income.

:D

Keegs,

I have no ide how you are being taxed at the normal income rate on bonuses. Mine is apx 45% on the annual one in addition to taxing my restricted stock at that amount as well. Everyone I know who is in the same situation is taxed at the same rate for incentive awards. 50% taken right off the top, and no it doesn't come back at tax time.

I didn't say what Wall Street did should be considered sucess, I was referring to individual success.

Progressive taxes are not in the constitution. They are in the IRS tax code, which is directed by Congress. The income tax, in gneral was added around 1913. It was supposed to be only a couple of percent of income. What have we now?

Just sayin.

Tim...if your bonus is being taxed at a rate of 45%, that "tax" isn't going to the federal government.

The sixteenth amendment to the constitution allows for a progressive tax. Look it up.

Only one that I saw.

I would post more, but I am still looking for my "TBN Guide To Code Words and Hidden Meanings".

I suppose for many tractor owners, the length of ownership is such that you could have the same tractor before and after a recession, so it may not really matter unless you are selling or purchasing.
