Heat and humidity are brutal down here in the Arklatex. This ventilated sun helmet is the best I have found for keeping the sun off my head and ears and promoting the movement of air between the helmet and the head. Light weight plastic but durable. It has an adjustable head band inside which allows air to move upward between the hat and the head and exit through the louvers in the side of the crown. Rain on it is shed right off. I am thinking of adding an even wider brim to it for even more protection.

I really like the "Tilley" hats. Great feel and great guarantee. They also make enough models for any occasion. And the "string system" will keep them on your head in any weather. And a wet bandana around the neck is great in the hot sun(which we haven't been getting much of in VT this summer!)

Hats? Hearing Protection?
Been away from the board for a while, and return to find two very lengthy threads on the above subjects.

At 65 yrs old, in south Texas, having had a couple of small skin cancers taken off, I go for the widest floppiest-brimmed hats I can find. They get sweaty and dirty, get washed, and shrink, so I buy several when I find a good type at a good price.

Presently working through some I found in the ladies section of Stein-Mart.

I keep a hat and a retired set of shooting ear-muffs on the FEL joystick when the tractor is in the carport.

Sometimes wore ear muffs with the New Holland TC-30 I used to have. The Kubota L3400 seems to have a sound frequency peak (whine off the hydraulics or something) and the ear muffs are more needed.

(I did two tours as instructor pilot in the T-37, the engines notorious for compressor whine; usually both ear plugs and muffs on the ground, left the plugs in under under the helmet when in the air.)

Usually a ball cap and dark sun glasses...Never too shy about putting sun blocker on as well.

This is me wearing my best sun protecting hat. Some may not care for it since it's not the most stylish. I've found that once a person starts baking in upper ninety degree temps with high humidity they no longer care about style, and I one of them.

I have a baseball type hat with a fan. There's a cutout in the brim so that the fan blows on my forehead. Also the fan is powered either by solar cells or a small battery pack.
And no, I don't remember where I got it.
