Have 500 gal propane tank and want to add a second one?

If you instal a second tank, I'd plumb them so that you can use them separately. In case one springs a leak, or needs service, you could use the other. I'd cry if I lost 1000 gallons due to a leak.

The way mine were plumbed, they had separate shut-off valves. You could use one or the other alone.

Putting of 1000 gallon Propane tank will be one-time process and will be safer to you rather than adding one more tank of 500 gallons with your previous tank. There might be sometimes leakage in the attachment which may endanger your life. Go for a good quality big tank .

kristinalva---Well, this is an old thread and I went with two 500 gallon tanks. When, or if I move and can take the second one with me. Plus, around here you still sell the one with the house that you own. As I may or may not have mentioned, the 1,000 gallon tank didn't exactly fit and would have required a lot of extra effort.

To me it seems it's equally as "safe" or safer in that one tank is always off and the tanks are 100 ft from the house. More on the plus side, I just filled up for the winter at $1.09 so my payback has been faster than anticipated. One large or two small; either way the ability to tie a larger purchase to seasonal price swings has paid off.


Any pics of your 2014 Eicher tractor? I don't think I have ever seen one.

Let me also add that I put the tanks side by side. I couldn't put it behind, and it was difficult in front so the only choice was side by side and it works OK. I put a new regulator in at the time and replaced anything I could. Plus I put some cedar trees in front of the tanks and in another year or two you won't know they are there.
