Besides windshield wipers, airliners have a rain repellent system the pilot can squirt, like washers on your car, if the wipers quit at the "wrong" time. Mechanics hated the older systems as it takes a lot of elbow grease to remove if there is not enough rain to clean it off.
On Douglas DC-9s, the rain repellent bottle was hidden because the first system was made by Boeing. Old man Douglas said to hide the bottle as he would not have the name Boeing visible on his aircraft. On Boeings it is behind and left of the Captains seat.
Rain repellent and the heaters in between the glass panes keep the windshields clear. Besides heating for ice and fogging, the heat makes the windshields stronger to impact.

I'm not sure how well it will work in extreme cold weather , but I use BREAK-FREE, a gun lubricant on everything that sticks and squeaks here in NC with great results. I think it is silicone based , not exactly sure but it does put a protective coat on metal and will stop your guns from rusting.
Have used PB Blaster too from manifold bolts to car locks. It will penatrate well but I don't think it has anything to protect the metal in it..
I have used Coke to tenderize a cheap steak, but I prefer a 2 beer marinade...One for the steak, one for me....

Coke or Pepsi works good on the windshield in Florida too. Gets rid of the "Love Bugs" guts on your windshield. I was crossing Alligator Alley once and when I got to the end at the Seminole Shell station, my field of vision on the windshield was perhaps the size of a silver dollar. A can of coke did the job. Cooks in country diners use coke on their grills with the aid of a wire brush to clean the cooked on grease. Happy tractoring from Creekbend

Since the budget cuts statewide, the FHP do not patrol alligator alley at night anymore. So if you break down, hopefully you will be armed. Drug runners cross over to hit I-95 on a regular basis. By the way, dragonflies can get numerous at dusk down there too.:tractor:

Dragonflies can do an amazing job of getting out of the way. I guess they know how to use those huge eyes. I went through swarms of them in the middle of the day once on my GoldWing, crossing part of Northern CA. I could see them dodging me at the last second. I got only one in the radiator and none on the windshield. They wouldn't have sold me any Coke that day.
