I had a Saturn I sold a year ago or so when I had enough with GM. Anyway, it started burning oil very badly at 35,000 miles or so. I am talking a 1 qt every 600 miles. I took it to GM and raised he11 but they said it was in tolerance.
Stupid thing only held 4 qts so you were adding a qt every week and a half.
Anyway the mechanic at the dealer told me he had great success taking the plugs out, turning the engine over till all 4 cylinders were even, pouring 3oz of Coke and 3oz of diesel fuel and letting it sit for a few hours. After that time take a turkey baster with a hose on it and get out all the mix you can then turn the engine over a few times with the plugs out to blow the rest out. Put the plugs in and run it for a 20 minutes then change the oil with Mobil 1. He said to only use Mobil 1 because it had he highest detergent package in the industry. Keep that oil in there for 500 miles then change it again back to your regular oil.
I was scared to try this so I just ran 10W40 instead of the 5W30 it called for and got the oil use down to 800 miles per qt. Ran it that way for 130,000 miles with no issues other than drinking oil like so many other GM's do.
I can see how this would clean things up, especially the rings which he said was the problem.
