So I am one of the many out there that got hit a mighty blow by the slumped economy. My office cut back on hours and I am not going to be able to make ends meet if I don't act quickly. The last thing that Had To Be Forced onto my sell list is my beloved 06 SLT 1554 with only 38 hours on it. I am beside myself with this decision. The bills and kids have to come first though am I right? To help you understand how much I will miss this tractor I will tell you this... I am one of the ones that would pull it into the driveway and wash it like a car after using it LOL... and yes I armorall the tires. LOL

Can some of you experienced ones please help me figure out what it is worth?
And... Do you know the best way to sell it besides Ebay and local paper?

06 - SLT1554
only 38 hrs
Oil changed 3 times with Cub oil (I know I didn't have to...just wanted to)
Cub mulch kit
2 week old battery
Excellent overall condition.

Thanks guys... greatly appreciate all your help over the years.

Jeff

Any way to do the "Dave Ramsey thing" and 'deliver pizzas' or something to make up the difference in income so as not to lose the tractor?

I'd heartily recommend listening to Dave Ramsey.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I will pray things work out for you.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Unfortunately it is both a "blessing and a curse" that I make a considerable wage per hr. Meaning it takes a lot of hrs at a part time job to make up what I am losing. Don't get me wrong! I am doing what I need to do to protect my family as many are having to do these days.... I picked up one part time job in the evenings and I am looking for something to do during the day one day a week as well. The down side is that it just simply won't make up the difference and some things have to go. (tractor will be of little value if I lose the house) My wife is having some jewelry appraised for sale today.
Enough sad story Sorry about that? Back to the cub?

Would LOVE to keep it? Just can't. Any advise on my prev questions would be greatly appreciated. I really need to figure out what it might be worth.

I am not really sure what the tractor is worth, hopefully you'll be able to get a fair price for it as it looks like it was well taken care of. As for selling it, I sold my old car on craigslist in 2 days...it was free advertising. However, it seemed as though I had to deal with a lot of idiots in the process (thats phrasing it nicely)...but I did sell it for my asking price. Another option that I know people do here is take it to their local dealer for consignment. I know that my dealer charges a small fee but they also get the traffic looking at it. No matter what route you go I wish you luck and hopefully soon you'll be known as secondcub.

A close friend had the same thing to say about Craig's list. I might give it a try though... The headaches would likely be worth it to get mission accomplished. I'll call the local dealer first about consignment.. great idea. Thank you!

EDIT: Oh and yes... secondcub is def in my future.. maybe not soon but someday after things settle down. As you can tell, I love this tractor and would not hesitate at a second Cub.)

Well, just did some lawn mower research[bought a snapper],but a GT 1554 was on the list, and its new price was about 3,000.

Don't know if the SLT was/is a lower price cause of the lawn tractor/garden tractor thing or not.

So,wouldn't think you would get more than 2,000[might be hard to get that.]

Must not have a very big yard with only 38 hours in two years?or was it three mowing seasons?

I have had it for thre mowing seasons. Probably 1/4 of the time on it is pulling the kids in the trailer (4 wheel), so nope I don't have a big yard and certainly don't need a tractor but I just love them and had to have one. I grew up in the country and drove tractors since about 8 years old (everything from lawn tractors to combines) and just can't get it out of my blood.) It takes me about 25 min to mow my yard with it. lol

I have always had "big yard dreams" LOL. Some day I hope to have the big nice yard!

I trust that things will work out for the Good. What state are you all in and what is the asking price. I'm sure some of the folk here maybe interested even myself.
Take care and do know we will keep you and your family lifted up.

Craigs list is free and easy advertising... must have picture helps hugely. In my area there are a lot of tractors to be had on craigs list though.

First, I am sorry to hear about your struggles, my family is also hunkering down for the long haul.

Craigs is a good first place, free, lots and lots of people on it and you can easily relist and update.

For what it is worth, we've revisited all of our spending, from couponing when shopping to consolidating homeowners and car insurance to highspeed, cable and phone packages, we no longer eat out, etc., etc., etc. You know something, in the long run, its good for the mini-boss to see that mom and dad are very careful with the money, we had not been as careful in the past.

Now is also a terrific time to refinance if you've not already, the fixed rate mortgages have extreemly low interest rates. I'm a refinance hound and refinanced 4 or 5 times (no points, no closing costs and never pulled money out) 5 years ago was the last time I did it going to a 15 year 4.875% note, I'd refinance again if I could beat the rate by much, but that's about as low as it goes, my last ditch effort would be to add years, but I've never done that.

Another bright spot is, when the economy does turn, we'll be better positioned.

Again, good luck and hoping things settle out for you and yours sooner rather than later.

Sincerely,
Joel

JoelD, Our stories are very similar. Thanks for the encouragement. We have made many of the same changes you did and are still working on some more.
I would be interested to know how you refinanced with no closing costs? Care to pm me some advise? The banks in my area want to charge you as much as possible but tell you it costs you nothing becasue they "include" the costs in the new mortguage.
Do they really think I am not seeing the 10-12 Grand tacked on the last column of the "sign here" sheet??

Thanks again... Best to you and yours as well.

UPDATE:

Well... for better or for worse.... I am getting A LOT of traffic with this listed at 1500.00. I Honestly have them lined up to come and see it. Several have said "I will buy it at full price" just from looking at the pictures on Craig's List.
The first is coming tonight after I get home from work. Can't blame them I guess... It is for all intents and purposes practically new... and looks like it to.

Is it really strange that I feel so rediculously sad over this? I will miss that thing!!! (especially when I'm push mowing my lawn LOL )

It won't be forever. Maybe you can help another guy out when you get back to being gainfully employed.

Well................it's gone.

I am really happy to have "met" you all. You have been very kind in your lending of help and I am glad I was able to offer some help from time to time as well.

Thanks diesel... I'll look around here when I am ready to buy again. Maybe it will be ther perfect timing for someone.

Wish you all the best!

Well,I guess there are areas that have lived up to what you hear on the tv about how bad it is,but, don't notice it around most places I've been in last 6 months or so.Think its more hype than fact for 90 percent of the country.

Um... not sure what to say to that.... seen the stock market lately? My company is 65,000 + employees... The largest firm in my field in the World. If we are feeling the sting... I assure you more than 10% of the country is feeling it.
