Can you do a "poll thread" if you don't want any explanation with the answer? It's just natural to want to explain a bit (circumstances, hours, etc). As a reader, I personally find the info useful, but as the thread op you obviously do not. :confused3:
I've stolen/redirected/made a thread my own as many times as other people, maybe more, so I understand the desire/screaming in my head to get my opinion/question added/answered to move a thread IN MY OWN DIRECTION AS WELL AS ANYONE.
Sometimes people will start their own thread if they want something different, just saying.:)
I'll post again my purpose for this thread and maybe help see why the individual experience other than it isn't happening as often as people think it is and it happens to the rare few with or without a added protection plate but maybe less often with the additional added expense plate.
Purpose of this is to show these new buyers or pondering buyers that this broken fan is not an automatic happening and to avoid the BX because of the plastic fan. Buy protection plate if your going to be off road but for the majority of BX buyers who are suburbia large lot owners, it's an almost no thought issue. That's my point. Old experienced heads always want to present how bad things can be and they can but they are usually the exception and not the norm. That's the point. Has it happened to you yes or no and on any or all of your BXs?

Most people that do not have a complaint ever respond to any thing. Therefore most people have never had a broken fan or knew/know it if they do/did.
Have you ever broken the transmission fan on your BX? No or yes will work. That's the question with no question as to hours, how many BXs have you owned, do you do work in the woods, do you just mow your yard, no additional factors or filters.
Have you ever broken the transmission fan on your BX? No or yes will work.
Not counting some people that have owned several isn't a part of this survey or any other disclaimers to make it to technical in able to make the numbers lie.:)
Back to on track for this survey......Have you ever broken the transmission fan on your BX? No or yes will work. If you want to contribute, as I did, that I never with 2 or 5 different BXs I think the number should be counted as 2 or 5 nos.

Back to the question with out modifiers except the total number the answer is covering.......... Have you ever broken the transmission fan on your BX? No or yes will work.

Yes or no is not going to prove a whole lot. Does the person have any additional protection for the fan, how they use the tractor and how many hours they have put on BXs are all important factors. Since you want a simple yes or no you probably aren't going to get any more posts since there is a minimum of 5 characters required for a post.

Asking a question like that w/ just a yes or no answer and then trying to use those answers as facts makes this pretty useless.

And where are you seeing people stating to avoid the BX because of the plastic fan? I've seen people complain about the fan but never tell anyone to avoid it all together.

And there's no harm in warning people about the possibility of it breaking and a skid plate is always a good idea none the less.

It's like being on the witness stand, just answer the question Yes or No. If we had a car with the air bag, never left the garage you wouldn't need it. Same with the BX's never leave the shop wouldn't need it. Mighty cheep insurance. Just My thoughts. I am sure I'll take a pounding for this?

BX2230. No. 591 hours when I got it 2 1/2 years ago about 200 hours more now. Put a BT rear plate on very soon after getting it. Cut a full 1/2 inch plywood (not osb) plate that hangs on mower arms for fuel and wiring protection when the mower is off.

Answer: no

After 4 years without a protector, I pulled the trigger on Armor-All from BXpanded. Before, I would keep the MMM on even when pulling a brush hog and tilling! Stupid me. BXpanded fixed all that and it's only a couple of minutes (literally) to take off and put back on. I had previously purchased the 1st gen improved Kubota fan protector but felt it did not provide enough piece of mind. Armor-All does!

Under chassis ptorection is a good idea, no matter what you're protecting, fan or filter, hoses and cables can all get grabbed.

Almost like avoiding the 50 series because it stops as soon as you let off the pedal. As a BX24 owner. I can assure all that it is one fine machine. And stops on a dime, especially in hi-range!
I would rather have it stop abruptly (and avoid running over something or someone when I want it to, rather than continue to roll a little (over your family member or a steep drop.) But that's another topic that has been beaten to death. Still, the 50 series is the same great tractor as are all BX's, plastic HST fan or not. But my advice is buy BXpanded or DIY.
