Have you ever broken the transmission fan on your BX? No or yes will work.

No breaks on my BX2200 after a couple of years and no lower protection.

No. I purchased my used BX2660 last August, and in my research had read about how 'exposed' the fan was (or maybe had been?) to random sticks and twigs. Even though it had a reasonably good looking factory shield I added the BXpanded under armor (and did not have to remove the factory shield either). I only have 3 acres but I had several small and mid sized trees come down in Hurricane Sandy. Cleaning that up and working in an over grown hedgerow and field, I feel a bit more secure. In total my machine has about 340 hrs, of which I put on about 70. Thanks for the thread by the way.

BX1500, not yet, but something pushed the fuel line into the fan and put some divets in the line itself. No broken fan surprisingly. I'm thinking skid plate will be getting ordered soon.

No BX24 bought in 2004, no protection unless mower is attached.

yes even though i installed the BroTek rear plate as soon as i bought the machine - a long branch got through, tore off all the vanes in a second

Who is keeping tally of this?

At this point it appears it is 20.5% or approx. 1 out of 5. Two multiple posts not counted. Also, only one yes or no per person would make sense, as owning several BX's would be seen as a singular experience.

Total hours and conditions tractor worked would be variables which could increase or decrease risk but that would be too many variables.

I do think, in reality it is lower than the current total, but a couple of years ago there was a thread questioning the fans which seemed significant enough and the BX has been around long enough that Kubota should have addressed and simplified this repair for owners by now.

Nope no breaking it..........and use mine often in the bush, but after seeing warning here at TBN after second year I cobbled together a plywood protect plate (hung from strapping to frame) cut to size for my 2007 BX2660 just in case.

So what exactly are you trying prove w/ this thread?

A. It's always going to be possible to break the fan. (Apparently even w/ the skid plates as others have reported :( )
B. Hours has no bearing as to whether or not you'r fan will break.
C. Working conditions on the other hand definately will play a role.

I've had my BX2350 since 2007 and have over 350hrs and have not broken the fan yet. I say yet because it's entirely possible I will break it tomorrow just by running over a stupid branch (surprised I haven't had it happen sooner).
But I also don't run my BX through the woods or worse areas like some others do.
