Having my roof reshingled

Always nice to see someone using tools and know how instead of brute strength and gross ignorance:thumbsup:
Having done a number of multi layer (shakes included!) roof rip-offs in my younger day, I would hire that guy in a flash! Less nails, roofing bits, demo-ed plants and lawn etc.
I am just in the process of having a barn roof redone after wind damage - wish my contractor had that type of equipment

Yep, When I saw what they were doing with the truck I said to myself, "Yep I hired the right guy". I am sure my quoted price included, to some degree, the truck and I am perfectly good with that. I know the quote for the work was a bit high from what I was expecting but I learned a long time ago higher quotes usually mean I am not seeing the big picture and if the higher quote is not a show stopper...go with it. Hows that go, you get what you pay for, even if you don't know what you are really paying for? However a reputable contractor is a must.

Man, how things have changed huh? My first job out of high school in the early 70's was building FHA housing in Maine. Roofing crew would be 3 guys with hammers, utility knife, chalkline and a ladder. Air nailers weren't around yet. In winter you couldn't wear a glove on your left hand because you needed the dexterity to grab nails out of your nail pouch. Hauling bundles of shingles up a ladder was a shoulder affair.
Bird you hauled 2 bundles at a time? You must have been mighty rugged.
High tech was a hammer staple gun to fasten down the felt paper. You would spend the day with your knees on the roof, your feet on the stageing with your toes curled up. Nerve damage that is still with me. That was tough work.

And yes... had to walk to work, barefoot, in the snow and it was uphill both ways. :confused2:
