New to this site, been on a few others for a little while. Grew up in the country and live in it now. Starting to get into older farm equipment. My first project is an old Electric Wheel Company Wagon/Gear. It belonged to a departed friend of mine. He always intended to re-do it and some other stuff but got the cancer and that was that. I've been on an extensive search to find out the exact model number and year it was made. I've been able to cross the wheel hub numbers Q455A to a model 540 or 541 EWC gear or a wards 431. Prior to starting the project I never paid attention to a thing about running gears / wagons. I thought it was a John Deere gear cause it had the tie rods in the front and the hubs / wheels were yellow and the gear some sort of green (not Deere or Oliver). I know better now. I have adds from a 1947 EWC model 499, and I've seen pix of a 500 (it ain't that). I got a 1951 ad for a 600 series and it looks closer to that. The only other wagon I've seen that green color was posted on this site (and I've looked at 1,000's) a few years back by an ol boy out of Seminole County Oklahoma (I think). Something about "hay racks lets see'em". I didn't see a tag on his either or that may have solved it for me. At any rate I'm add info to the ol CPU before I start my tractor project to match my new powder coated "Parade" hay rack (almost done) 2. 12-17-2012, Pre-Restoration front view..jpg5. Ya, I know, I got the cart before the tractor LOL. Mine is the one with all the wheels off. The one I found on here has some blocks under it. Look at the original paint close and It looks the same to me. Any thoughts are much appreciated!

Welcome to TBN. I'm sure someone here will be able to assist. Maybe if you posted a separate thread as a 'Mystery - help needed'. Someone's sure to know.

Keep in mind that a lot of Farm wagons and trailers are home-built. So, the axles and wheels may well have been repurposed from something entirely different. It is not uncommon to find something like Model A wheels on an old Farm wagon, and often still in use.

Have you figured out what your trailer was designed to haul?

I'm guessing it had bunks to carry round stuff. Either logs, or quite likely irrigation pipe.

Have you done some welding on the trailer?
For a trailer with two separated axles, at least the front hubs will have to pivot.

From the looks of his picture I'm fairly sure it's a factory unit. That type of running gear is used for all kinds of things from hay wagons to small gravity carts. The front wheels do pivot, if you look close you can see the tie rods.
