I think someone stole my dang PTO input shaft  Had it rolling around in the back of my truck and went to town for parts...anyways it's gone. vanished Where is a good place to start looking ? It's just the front half of the pto shaft I had it slid out so I wouldn't loose it on the highway as the holder is gone. stumped and pssed

Well guess I'll just press out the U joint on the swather side and just install a whole new drive line with shield and everything.

Much cheaper than trying to source a NH haybine 489 PTO shaft

$100 bucks will buy me a whole new generic shaft. Probably cheaper since it's pretty short.

either that or I'll find some tick wall square tube stock and weld on a PTO yoke and slide that in.

Probably the new generic shaft.

If you decide to try and build another end to match what you have left, it's going to be very difficult to make it concentric. (spelling?)

There's no problem to rebuilding a pto shaft. I cut & splice them from time to time. In fact I just repaired the female telescoping one for my JD 347 sq baler. The female sq part split(see photo for replacement part) from crossing a high driveway so I purchased the female part which is about 6"s long then found a piece of rd tubing the correct size, lengthened the overall length by 6 additional inches, slide male & female together so u-joints would be in phase then welded it together.

Well, I'm a little embarrassed - I found it in my spot where I knew I wouldn't forget where I put it then promptly forgot. We all have those spots don't we?

Glad you found it and that someone didn't borrow it
