I got a HD bucket with my 430 loader. It has holes to mount a replacement scraper blade. I didn't realize that the bucket would not come with the replacement scraper blade when I bought the bucket. I see that the replacement scraper blade is about $115. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to get it before I wear the edge of the bucket itself. Never thought about that when I got the bucket as I assumed the scraper would be with the bucket when new.

My JD HD bucket came with the bolt on cutting edge. Dealer just assumed that their customers would want one. Otherwise, why buy a bucket built to accommodate a bolt on cutting edge and then not buying one?

Sent an E-mail to my Dealer this am. He got back to me already. Not sure if it was overlooked or what but one has been ordered and is being shipping to my house. No extra fees.

My HD bucket did not come with holes? At the time my dealer assured me I was getting the HD bucket (that I paid extra for) but I allways wondered at bit. Is there some easy way of knowing if I have the HD or not? Thanks guys /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Rob...

If you want one with holes you have to order the HD with pre-drilled holes bucket. This is an optional bucket and it only costs a few bucks more but the holes are cut to easily accommodate the bolt on cutting edge.

rancar, thanks for the feedback. Are you saying there are two heavy duty buckets. One with holes and another without?

Yep....that's what I'm saying and I believe this info is on JD's configurator website. Or, at least it was when I bought my bucket last year. I believe the thinking here is those who want the welded on cutting edge will simply buy the regular HD bucket that comes from the manufacturer (Welland Works....I think). Those who want the bolt on cutting edge HAVE TO buy the bucket with pre-drilled holes. This will accommodate the easy placement, removal, and replacement of the cutting edge. BTW, these bolt on cutting edges are reversible. When one side wears away, one can flip them around and have a brand new cutting edge....like getting two cutting edges in one. This can't be done with the welded on cutting edge.

Bob -

Maybe I'm wrong about this (two dealers have told me this now), but here goes...

On the 460 loader there are two bucket options - one has the drilled cutting edge and is considered a Heavy Duty bucket and the other is considered a "dirt bucket". The dirt bucket isn't reinforced and therefore it is easier to bend if you're working with rocks, etc. It's also easier to put welded hooks on the HD bucket (as it is not recommended on the dirt bucket).

I just placed an order for a HD bucket (with drilled cutting edge) along with set of pallet forks. Both attachments I'll pick up from the dealer near our cabin in early August. I'll still have both buckets - but I'm sure I'll use the HD bucket more.

Does this make sense based on what you've seen?

Hi Bob...

Everything you've said in your post is correct. The dirt bucket, I believe, is JD's standard bucket. It is thinner gauge steel and will likely bend or warp if you knock it around a bit carrying or pushing rock or other heavy debris material. Yes, it also is easier to weld bucket hooks on JD's heavy duty bucket because of the reinforced upper lip of the bucket. Otherwise, the dealer would likely have to first weld a reinforcing strip across the upper lip and then the bucket hooks. Buying the heavy duty bucket with pre-drilled holes is a good choice. You can carry rock and not be concerned much with dents or bending. Also, you can replace that cutting edge whenever needed since it can quickly be removed.

Regarding the standard bucket, I personnally would buy JD's larger heavy volume bucket. This is just like the standard bucket but is much larger and will accommodate larger volume loads of lighter material like snow, hay, sand, etc. I could have used this bucket this past winter with all the snow we had around my place.

The forks also are a good investment. You may not use them all that much in any given year but when you do they are sure handy to have around. I've been able to move around larger size boulders with these forks that I couldn't move with my HD bucket due to the boulder's bulk.

That's great news and fantastic feedback - thanks, Bob. I'm really looking forward to getting both here in August.

(I'll have to make sure I have my car coasters setup and ready - I started using those under my implements and it sure makes things easy to move and store them)

Heres my "HD" bucket. No holes on the cutting edge. If anyone thinks this looks like a light duty "dirt" bucket, please let me know. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Pretty hard to tell - it looks like the dirt bucket though. I'll have to compare when I get home (I'm in LA now).

The difference is noticable between the HD and Dirt Buckets as far as the amount of reinforcement you'll find on it. But I can't tell from your picture.

OK guys....I'm going to post the pic attachment again of my JD HD bucket WITH the predrilled holes Take note of how the cutting edge is attached with bolts. These bolts can be removed, edge flipped around on the horizontal, and one has a 'new' cutting edge.....that is, two cutting edges for the price of one. You don't get this with the welded on cutting edge.

Nice looking teeth. I have that same bucket and want to add teeth like yours. How much and what brand are they? Thanks.

This toothbar cost me $401 for the EXTRA heavy duty model that is custom made for buckets with the bolt on cutting edge. They are made by FFC Attachments, Lee, Illinois. Regular HD ones for welded on cutting edges are a bit less at $347. These prices were actual paid and quotes from Spring, 2002. They may be same or higher now. You can call my dealer -- Mark Brucker of KC-Canary, Fultonville, NY at 518-853-3405 for current prices. Mark can order one for you and have it shipped to you or your dealer for install.

Your buckets don't have the SSL Q-T do they?
For a little more than your $400 u could have a complete bucket w/ teeth that's for a SSL.
Anyone looking at new may want to get 2 buckets, one w/ teeth and one w/o teeth.
I've got both and they work great together.

??????????? Not sure what this acronym stands for. Please clarify.

Skid steer loader quick tach man SSL Q-T is a lot easier to type /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
BTW I saw in a local equipment book that a place in N Carolina sells HD SSL buckets for $280 and up and 48" forks for $425.

No, it's not a skid steer loader bucket but it is a quick tach hitch....I can hitch and unhitch with 1-2 minutes.
