Since you are leaving in April, I would suggest you head West in the Southern States, where it's pretty with spring flowers and cool temps.

The Coast Highway in CA is probably best from Hearst Castle on up to Pebble Beach. That's where the most amazing cliffs and shoreline is in my opinion.

Then work your way back home up North when the temps are a little warmer and you are less likely to hit snow. Yellowstone and Mt Rushmore are my two favorite places in the country!!!

One more thing to consider since you're going right past it ... literally. There's an RV Park at the exit also, I-40, Exit 233 in Arizona. I've seen it from the air flying from LA eastward, but never on the ground.

thanks guys, writing down suggestions on a big file
Leaving next April, not now. Have the wireless, no lady...

Part of this trip is to "see the world". When I get back from this trip I am likely to be selling my farm and downsizing, so this trip
will help me see if there are possibilities elsewhere.

Just finished reading the original trip log. Took a lot of notes, have all winter to figure out the final route.
My ideal day would be four to five hours of driving a day, plus an hour or two
sightseeing, usually over lunch, and then at the campground by 2pm.

No problem at all adding a couple of days for moving the route line and I am particularly not sure how best to go through Kentucky and West VA.
Sometimes through the mountains only a couple of roads to choose from.
My sister's son and family live in Redding CA, but are moving closer to her just North of San Francisco. If they haven't moved by next Spring, I would definitely go further up and then head East.

Trying to figure out if I can plant anything in the garden, if I'm getting home in May.
Probably not but I have to think about that further.
Potatoes go in March 1 here, and get harvested late June, so timing is ok for that.

But I really need to take a break from farming for a year, and if I'm "good" and rest up for this trip,
it will be physically easier on me. Have real issues with too much neck bending and hand gripping, all due to arthritis and operations,
so that's a primary reason I limit myself to four hours driving a day. Also helps avoid falling asleep at the wheel.
It's very different when you are by yourself and safety comes first.

I expect a trip to the beach this Fall, a trip to Florida this winter, both of which should get the kinks out. And will confirm to me how many hours a day
I can safely drive and still have fun. Need to remind myself I'm retired and not in a rush.

I have a 30 amp rv wall outlet on corner of house near parking lot, easy to hook up while it's parked there being loaded.
Long term storage under tall open shed down by barn, 30 and 50 amp receptacles nearby. Both locations have water too.
I have a bunch of heavy implements that now need to get moved out of that shed, but since I sold two tractors, have some room, just more
moving around. Never have enough covered storage...likely a common issue.
So I have some work to do to make a home for this new addition.
Good for you, nice write up.When your trip does come along please take a lot pics for us to see & enjoy.God speed..

Thanks Coobie, there are so many picturesque places in Utah, hard to choose. Will definitely spend an extra day in that area.

I've spent about a total of 12 weeks in Utah over the years (generally hiking after driving to where I wanted to go). Still haven't seen everything I wanted to there. The quick easy drive would be route 12 through Escalante. Arches national monument and the surrounding areas around Moab are really cool as well.

So much to see. I see mentions of Moab. One of our favorite places to visit. Along with Monument valley, Zion, Bryce and other national parks.
The visit with TBN members is very high on our enjoyment list. Is right next to family visits.
Our most favorite tour would have to be Antelope Canyon in Paige, AZ.
Not our best picture of the area. But it has us in it.

Ron, nice pic, just curious, how long a walk was it from where that pic was taken and your rv?
I took a year of Geology in college, find the rock formations very interesting, fossils, but also interested in general history.
I really need to pick one attraction to check out a day, and some times I expect that to be downtown in some small town at lunchtime.
Scenic overlooks with parking are always good.
Finding a spot to park the rig should be interesting. But I think after a few times I'll whip that thing around just like an inner city delivery truck.

Though when I measured the shed where the rv is going, 25 feet sure sucked up most of that 40 foot shed.
Going to head straight in for best vision by myself. Easy to back straight out, just need to clear all those support poles.
I might have to reverse that if power cord is too short to reach rv receptacle by being on far side.
I added a full gauge extension shore cable to my travel trailer and melted one of the Camco extension cord plugs quite nicely. Thankfully sitting on a concrete block.
So now I make sure I get the rig close enough and use only the cable that comes hard wired. I sure would pay another grand to get 50 amp service as an option.

When I lived aboard my boat in South Florida for three years, due to the heat, I had to run all four a/c units pretty constantly. Sucked up most of 50 amp cable and left little
for my wife. And never enough. I always told folks I had a 50 amp boat and a 100 amp wife. Rv's are the same, not much spare juice capacity and you try
not to multitask. 30 amps isn't very much with the a/c going constantly. I asked and they said full 15k ducted a/c with a heat strip.
Yeah, inefficient but electric heat strip is on the campground's tab.
I also find the use of electric space heaters with thermostats another way to circumvent burning
your own propane plus they are usually much quieter than rv hvac systems at night
for heat, since I'm by myself, minimal safety issues.
