I am installing a barrel wood stove in my pole barn. I have 3x5 durorock cement board to use as a heat shield behind and to the sides of the stove. I am looking for spacers to create air space between the cement board and rigid foam board. At this point, my stove will be at least 24" from the wall. Any suggestions for spacers?

Thank you

How much air space do you want to make?
Rip cement baord in strips and put 2 or 3 layers on the wall then fasten cement board shield with longer screws all the way through with longer screws.
Another possiblity is use square or rectangular tubing width of the space. Fasten that to wall and fasten cement board to the tubing.

Or cut some short pieces of conduit or any pipe and put the screws right through them.

I wouldn't think that you would need any space as a double layer of 1/2" gypsum board is rated as a 1 hour fire wall minimum and cement board should be better still. If you wanted to space it, I would do as SSdoxie suggest and place a 3" wide strip of the same cement board on the wall with adhesive to temporarily hold it in place, then lay my heat shield board on top and secure with long screws. The half inch spacing would be plenty for air circulation to cool the front board. Leave a minimum 1/2"gap at the bottom of the sheet for air flow for the chimney effect to work.

If you have flammable flooring, don't forget to put a heat shield down to protect that also.

Wood stove stores have ceramic spacers for this purpose. If you are from the Duluth that is in Minnesota, you can find them at Energy Plus on the Miller Trunk.
