well i am ready to make the plunge into buying and installing an outdoor hot water wood fired boiler. i have read the older posts here and gained a lot of insight. i am leaning towards the taylor 165,000 btu, as the new house is quite a rambler. anyone want to check in, in support of taylor, or tell me i should look at some other company again? thanks

Wish someone would post to this, as I am thinking about doing the same thing.

I've got literature from Central Boiler and Woodmaster, but I've not heard of Taylor.

Sorry I couldn't be of help.

My only advice is for you to make sure you know and are ready for what you're getting yourself into. I've had an outdoor wood boiler for two winters now and find my experiences parallel those described at http://www.woodheat.org/technology/outrickperth.htm. While the woodheat website is admittedly cool towards these things, I found the description pretty close.

I only have to load mine twice a day--once in the morning when I get up and once before I go to bed. Occasionally on a really cold night, I'll get up and find the wood is mostly gone and the boiler temperature has dropped below what's needed to supply the house with heat.

I've got a Homesteader furnace. Given my experience, however, I can't recommend it (though I'm stuck with mine). I'd recommend a Central Boiler (or similar) with a flat bottom (no ash pan or ash auger). Also, don't oversize the unit to your heating needs.

Good luck.
