Brad, I have a Curtis cab with heater and I really like it. I have not had my tractor for a long time ( since last Dec.), but there were several times when it was nasty out last winter that I would not have been outside doing tractor work without the cab. I am outside alot when I am at work so it's not like I mind getting cold. Even when using the backhoe with the back flap open the cab gives welcome shelter from the wind.

It was nice this summer to have some shade and be out of the direct sun, didn't need the heater.

I am going to add a windshield washer as the windshield picked up quit a bit of dust when doing alot of loader work.

I will see if I can get a picture. If you have any questions I would be happy to help.

Hi, A cab would be nice. I am curious does the cab interfere with a backhoe? Is there enough room between them so that it doesn't?

According to Curtis and my dealer, their cab design does not interfere with the back hoe. The cab fits inside of the ROPS. The two other cab manufacturers that I contacted (Cozy Cab and Laurin) said their cabs weren't designed to work with backhoes, but something custom(expensive) might be able to be done. Didn't sound good to me...

I heard on this forum somewhere, someone talking about a Curtis cab really, ratling a lot.I was told by JD that in a couple of years they probably will be offering JD installed cabs on the 4010 series.

If you have a cab do you have to get a heater to keep the glass from fogging over?

I have the heater and I am trying to come up with a simple defroster. I haven't really needed it, but when I get back in the cab and I'm huffin and puffin I fog a little bit. There is a lot of room in the cab. I will take a picture this weekend to give you an idea.

i paid 1800 for my curtis soft cab installed with a heater and a step too! he also steered me away from the hard sided cab because the cost difference doesnt really afford you any more warmth.

the cab does rattle a bit at the area where the joystick enters but all i have to do is adjust that....plus i have lined the cab with some sound deadening material so it is much quiter.

sorry i dont have any experience yet in the cold but i will keep you updated....as for fogging which i hear can be a problem i have installed a small high CFM fan in the top right corner over the joystick.... it worked really nice this summer in the heat.... it should keep the glass clean this winter too... oh and about $50c cheaper than the curtis fan.

Hmm...Only half as much money for the soft side cab & heater that'll be easier to install and to store? Sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the tip. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

The price you paid seems to closely match the pricing on the Curtis web site. My dealer's quote is way high. I think my dealer and I need to chat some more ....

I have a Curtis hardside cab on my NH2120. It has a heater (low & Hi speed), front and rear wipers and 2 front cab lights. I paid about $3K for it.

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/forumfiles/47-194412-House%26tractor.jpg>here is a picture</A>.

I've used for three winter now. The previous year I spent a lot of time (over 50 hours) in the cab for snow removal.

If you want more specific pictures let me know, I can post then or e-mail.

You were quoted on a hard side cab. The lower quote is for a soft side cab. Don't embarrass yourself in front of your dealer without checking your facts first. I hope this helps. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Hi Gary,

The Curtis web site has pricing for both soft side and hard side cabs. My comment was requarding his cost being inline with the web pricing and my quote being WAY over. There also is a post from a gentleman in Vermont with a hard side and accessories that apples to apples would be about $1000.00 less than my quote.

I may have to check around Vermont for a dealer....

Brad,

Thanks for explaining that. You might want to check around for a dealer who will have Curtis "drop-ship" a cab to you. The dealer would have no inventory expenses and might offer you a good discount on a cab.

Good luck with your search. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Has anyone tried those cheap soft cabs from Northern or TSC
I think they are around $200

Brad, the cab on my L35 is kind of a hybrid hard/soft. Here's a front view of the cab. Sorry she's so dirty we've been working.

There is not alot of room for storage, but I have tool pouches on each side of cab. They hold a box of pins, fence pliers, knife etc.

My cab has the soft back and doors. I took them off for the summer except for when it rains, that hasn't been to often. I have plenty of room even when turned around to use the backhoe.

The old tractor that my grandfather always used for plowing snow had basically a semi-enclosed cab. It had heavy canvas panels that covered the sides of the engine and panels that surrounded the drivers area. It also had a small clear plastic windshield.
It obviously didn't totally protect you from the elements, but you stayed fairly warm from the engine's heat that was directed back at you.
Does anyone know if these "cabs" are still available? Who makes/made them?
I'd prefer this type of arrangement myself - easy to remove and store for summer and keeps you a little warmer in the winter. I'm sure that this type of setup could be self constructed as well.
