Heated dog house?

We used to use a hog farrowing house electric pad when our dogs had an outside dog house. Worked great-I think I got them at a farm supply store like TSC or Orschlen's.

Now they are in our heated garage, so I haven't used one since then. Haven't got around to getting their big screen hooked up yet, but they haven't complained much-probably because they've had enough TV after watching from our couch and recliner in the house all day!

This ight sound nuts but my two dogs are short haired and this weatehr takes a toll on my letting them out every minute. They have a dog pen (quite large) And a small house in it thats 4.5 x 4.5 foot roughly.
The door is the stumbling part it would have to be easy for then to enter and exit yet seal faily tightly.I would also insulate it some.
I assuem an electirc heater with good metal mesh around it would work. I already have 120 15 amp to the gate. so I could extend that out to it.
I was just wondering if anyone has gone this route?
Thanks...

I built a heated dog house years (15-20 ?) ago and the basic floor was a framed 2x4 rectangle with a piece of plywood nailed to the bottom. I nailed 2x4 blocks in a circular pattern onto the topside of the floor and then stapled a ready-made pipe heat tape with built-in thermostat to the sides of the blocks following the blocks in a spiral. I drilled a hole thru the floor side wall near to the plug end of the heat tape for the power cord. I topped the floor section with pegboard and screwed it to the top of the 2x4 floor perimeter .... also screwed to a few of the blocks near the center. The roof/walls were an A-frame style with their bottom plates screwed thru the pegboard and into the 2x4 floor perimeter. I used an old army blanket for a pad over the floor. A string mop refill screwed over the door kept the wind out.

I also built a straight-walled 2-room house for the cats the same way but added BluBoard for insulation.

I also used heat tape to make a heated water bowl in the same fashion (minus the pegboard) ..... it was a box with a hole cut in the center for a rubber feed bowl to set into. The heat tape was arranged around the bowl's base perimeter and stapled flat to 1x2 blocks so the heater box was only 2 3/4" tall (2x4 on edge + 2 thicknesses of 3/8" plywood). At one time I put heat tape in an old freezer that sat outside to store food supplies in that couldn't be frozen.

These heat tapes use little electricity and still work after all these years.

My poor husky-malamute mix, has no tv, no stereo or heater. Just a small dog house and straw. He likes it more than the house most nights though.

I run one for my dogs, but occasionally have circuit overloading problems. If the heater is on while they watch their 55" plasma TV, when they make frozen daiquiris, the blender blows the breaker.

I take it you spend a lot of time in the doghouse??

Years ago I converted a small child's playhouse into a dog house. Basically the conversion consisted of throwing some wood chips in it for bedding. When it got colder, I covered the windows with plexiglass, hung strips of old carpet over the door to block the wind, and I wired up a spotlight inside, pointed straight down in the middle of the 'rafters'. When I went to work in the morning I let the dog out, flipped the switch to turn the light on, and was on my way. This was a lab mix dog, medium short hair, and it worked for him.
I wouldn't trust an electric heater, good chance of getting debris in it, causing a fire. A suspended spotlight can throw lots of heat, and it's out of the way.
