Heating Oil Same as Diesel.. NOT

Around here we have #1 and #2 diesel. Home heating oil is a blend with more #1 in the winter the same as the gas stations do in this state with diesel fuel in winter. I have run both types in my 05 duramax just fine although one of the guys at the fuel dock told me that some of the newer trucks were having trouble running on straight number 2.

I had a 93 -250 with a 7.3 liter Diesel, Never ran HHO in it but was told by everybody that it would be fine, knew several excavators that did.Was told a few years ago, when looking at a 2006 GMC w/ Duramax, that the engine had some kind of electronic "eye" that would keep it from running correctly on heating oil because of the dye....Supposedly the diesel was clear enough to read "thru", the HHO wasn't. Don't have any further info since then tho. Good luck.

Not true. I have ran well over 300 gallons of dyed fuel though a 07 Dmax. and well over 2,000 gallons in a 04 and 06 Powerstroke.

Contrary to lot's of opinions here.
I put some in my truck yesterday, GMC DuraMax, made it about a mile.

Like the others, I'd love to hear the specifics. You say you put "some" in the tank. Unless the tank was bone dry it mixed with what you had. How much DID you put in and how much road diesel was in there already?

It is possible for the fuel you burned at the end of that mile to have come from the tank (depending on mileage, filter size, line length, line ID) but I doubt it would stop the engine cold unless there was a some kind of sensor that shut off the fuel. But it would have to be one heck of a sensor to figure out what kind of diesel you're burning, IMO. Maybe it was a pump failure. Again, post more specifics before making a grand statement like that.

BTW, I used to burn HHO in my earlier diesels for years. No problem, as the others said, it's the same as # 1. But, then again, there was a lot less computer gadgetry and sensors on those vehicles.

It felt sluggish at about 1 mile, engine light came on and it wouldnt do over 2000 rpm without 'ocillating' rpms. Drained it out, filled it with diesel, ran it today and the light went back out. I put about 15 gallons HHO in while it had about 5 diesel left in there. It runs perfect again after I drained and refilled it. It's an 04.

To be accurate, I don't know what kind of HHO it was, we tested for water before we pumped it out of the in-ground tank, and there was none.

Why are you running it in a truck anyway?

Good to know. One of those things you hear, but unless you know someone with personal experience, you never know.

Jake, I put a banks econotuner on my 05 duramax along with a different exahust, it worked great for a month then coasting down a long long hill coming down the alcan all of a sudden my engine light did that and truck wouldn't rev up just limped down the road til I could pull off. Was in the middle of nowhere so shut it down check elec connections, fuel etc couldn't find anything. Started it back up and all was fine and never did it again, check eng lite went off and everything. So by the time I got to Or. bought a tractor built a flatbed out of a boat trailer did the holidays I plumb forgot about it. Til...Had the trailer loaded for home @10 ton, was pulling out the driveway and the same thing happened. Backed back in checked everything, turned it off and restarted and same thing as soon as I pulled out. Backed in, called Banks they said that the extra power from the system plus the new heavy load I was pulling was making the slip sensor on the transmission set off the "limp home mode". They said to just go a couple of miles down the road limping, turn it off, then start it again and it would reset to the new parameters. I did, it did, and made it up the Alcan with the load just fine after that. Haven't had a problem since and when I talked later to a gm mechanic, he said that it happens sometimes even without the extra power of the banks. Sorry for being so long winded, but yours sounds like what was going on with mine. Good Luck

I haven't heard of anyone having problems running any of the off-road fuels here ... but ... I have heard of them getting fined by FDOT. They are not only checking semi's, they are checking others, too.

They (the state of Florida) need the money, too.

In January 2007 I converted to natural gas heating. Emptied the heating oil tank and dumped into an empty 250 gal tank beside my shed. That fuel probably pumped into the original tank Nov or Dec 2006 is still running my little Honda 6522 diesel, with no apparent ill effects.
