Burned wood pellets for 20 years.Wood pellets were cost affective way to heat back 15 - 20 years ago they were $100-$125 per ton now days $215-$250 per ton.I switched back to propane purchased 2 tanks 500 gallon.I fill up in august at 95 cents per gallon which will take me into to spring.
Only reason we have one is the wife likes the ambiance of the fire and I mostly burn corn which is very low cost for me. Our propane isn't quite that cheap but still better than straight pellets at @215 a ton. Paid (I think) $1.05 on my spring fill. I use quite a bit of propane, I heat the farm shop with it so it's usually 2.5 bottles worth @425 gallons per bottle.
If I didn't have the biomass stove, I'd certainly not purchase a new one but it's here so might as well use it.
